Some guys on this thread are unreal: "If he stays fit...", "Hopefully, he will start the season fit..." This displays a self-delusion worthy of a kopite. Pay attention: he is injury-prone, he will NEVER stay fit for any length of time!!! Extending his contract is equivalent to burning money FFS

Should add this under the title of the thread...

Nicely summed up.

The first player I tried to sell in FM2015 was darron gibson and arouna kone.

Unfortunately nobody else wanted them at any price.

I am a big fan of Gibson, I feel he has a qualities that we have nowhere else in our squad. However, we are not a Man U or an Arsenal who can afford to keep persistently injury prone players on the physio table ( a la Darren Fletcher, Abou Diaby or Tomas Rosicky) it was worth a punt, but it hasn't worked out and we should cut our losses. the same applies sadly to Pienaar, who I doubt we will see fit again.

Cracking player a proper preseason will do him the world of good, deserves a chance for my money.
Exactly, our only midfileder who can pick a pass, we dont have the money to bring someone likewise to replace him ATM so as long as its a deal based on appearance incentives its more prudent to retain him in the hopes he stays fit more than not.

TBF to him he came back last time looking fitter than he ever has, and it wasnt the usual muscle injury like he used to pick up it was a freak metatarsal injury

Exactly, he showed real guile and determination when he came back and for my money over that spell made a huge contribution during that period. Well able to control the midfield is Darren.

Doesnt matter how good he is on a football pitch when hes only on it a few games a season and we are overloaded with centre midfielders.

At the end of the day time will tell, but a Darren Gibson/ McCarthy(or Barry) central pairing would be sooo much better than the crab football Barry/McCarthy partnership.

100% guaranteed that the contract will have some form of pay as you play clause in it. So if that's the case what's the harm in giving him an extension?
