How on gods earth did he get a contact extension. I think someone answered it before for me in saying martinez had promised him one and so koeman or everton agreed to honour it but if thats the case i hope our club never makes mistakes like that again.

I think the contract was signed after Bobby was gone and before Ronald joined us.

at the end of the day, moshiri was in charge at the time, he had just got rid of martinez , so any deals, especially this one should have been shelved until koeman had assessed the squad.

utter basics that were gotten wrong!

infuriating to still have to pay this nonentity for another 18 months or more.

I wonder if there is more to it than just a footballing contract?

When he joined for a nominal fee from United he was superb and perhaps one of the first names any of us would have had on the team sheet.
I recall we never lost a league game when he featured up till his injury at West Brom.

Then the injuries mounted up and we here of him being cautioned for drunk driving.

I wonder if we as a club are perhaps trying to look after him as an individual.
Many footballers who suffer countless injuries and loss of fitness can have problems.

I don't see DG as a footballer for this club anymore, but whatever happens once he leaves the game I wish him well.

at the end of the day we are a business first and foremost.

looking after players because of insecurities does not mean we have to have them on 2 year contracts on thousands of pounds a week.

I agree.
But that is the only reason I can see why the club handed out a 2 year extension.
I would imagine his wages have dropped too.

Can't see us getting shut of him any time soon.
It's mad to think he's been here 5 years.

Which coincidentally, you get less than that for getting drunk and mowing down a cyclist.
