I'm fairly sure large amounts of alcohol and a poor diet will have an effect on the health of a person's body and their ability to recover from injury.
If someone eats lots of fruit and veg and avoids alcohol do you really think their ligaments will repair significantly faster? As long as he's fit for preseason it doesn't bother me if he has the occasional drink. I highly doubt he's having vodka on his breakfast cereal or anything.

I think that most of the references to Gibbo and pints of ale are made with the intention of having a bit of a laugh. Not serious like.

You're putting it out that that he smokes and that it's a fact that "he doesn't take care of himself". Ask yourself how could someone who doesn't take care of themselves be looking at recovering from an ACL injury in 6 months. It just doesn't wash.

Yes, like I said Gibbo is spotted having a drink here or there every month or two and you think it's a massive deal and that most other players aren't doing the same or more?

You believe them. Right, like someone will now go on to believe you and this smoking rumour you're spreading based on what?

Sounds like you run his favourite bar mate, never heard as much tosh in ages, trying to make out that drinkings no big problem with recovering from injury, it doesn't help one bit and pretty sure any physio or none dinosaur manager would agree with that, and will believe he will be back in 6 months from this injury when i see it with my own eyes, fact is he has a long history of taking a lot longer to come back from injuries than the typical player, so that record leads some to wonder just how professionally he conducts himself outside of rehab

Got no time for Gibson to be honrst. Always injured and sounds like a complete and utter chav on Twitter. Smokes, drinks and lives the high life while we pay him £50k a week no doubt for 6 games a season at best. Hope him, Alcaraz + Kone are first out the door in the summer. Wasters.

Actually proper dietary control is a vital part in recovering from injury, as is avoiding alcohol due to its inducement of free radicals in the body, so in short eating healthily and avoiding alcohol is important in rehabilitation of injuries and any one who disagrees frankly has no idea how the body goes about healing and repairing damage

What a load of poppycock.

Where have I said that drinkings no big problem with recovering from injury? The point is that you have no idea if he's drinking or how much he's drinking. It's just something you've got into your head based on what, 5 blues seeing him out having a drink over the last 2 years?

He's an injury prone player. He's had a lot of groin/thigh injuries going back years caused by that bone growth. And now he's had two knee injuries back to back.

6 months is generally the minimum time for ACL recovery and Gibson is on course to get there. Yet you think he should be recovering sooner. Right.

Well the fact he was suspended by united for a game for not being able to train the day after going out on the lash shows he has form mate, the fact he has a few times turned up either after a injury lay of or before the pre season looking well overweight cast a lot more doubt on his professionalism, also blues having quoted seeing him on the lash when they have no reason to lie about it is bad form from him, with his list of injuries he should be no where near a beer mate, whilst he's getting circa 60k a week whilst under contract the least he can do is aid his chances of actually being able to earn that wedge like

More lies. Gibbo, Rooney, and Evans went out with the wives after the boxing day game when they weren't supposed to. They weren't not able to train. In fact they were ordered to do more training as part of the punishment for breaking this curfew.

Well overweight? Is that a scientific judgement. On the field has Gibbo ever let us down? Man City last year was his first game back from injury. Remind me of the score and his performance. When players return from injury it usually takes them a while to get up to their peak condition.

I'd say blues have seen a lot of players out and about. What specific instance are you referring to and how much was Gibbo drinking. More speculative nonsense.

don't care if Gibson is a drinker or not, he not worth the wages we pay out and we cant even make him an important key of the team due to his unreliability. Right now I wouldn't want to see him renew his contract.

I think that's a given. If he can't be available for 30+ games a season then he'll be out the door. Right now he's fighting for his career, nevermind his Everton career. Like I said earlier players returning from ACL are always susceptible to relapses and on average retire younger. Hopefully Gibbo's one of the ones who come back strong and we get a couple of good years out of him.

I like Gibbo when he is in form and think he brings something different to the squad...trouble is, between injury and form, I don't think we have seen the best of him regularly since the start of the 2012-2013 season. I don't really count a decent showing in pre-season.

For me he had stopped contributing to the attack with those searching balls forward since that spell a year and a half ago! He was sideways passing like a mofo! So IMO a lot of people should tone down their expectations/hope on what he might bring to this squad and how important he will be.

The drinking thing is of course very speculative and if you want to make something of it, it is just to further your general gripe and agenda against the player because you think he has an unprofessional image or something. Theres a world of a difference between opinion and fact. I think I've even posted once that he comes across badly on twitter, but really that doesn't matter. Fact is we don't know if he adheres to the rehab regime set by the club doctors, maybe they don't have an issue with an odd drink?

edit: should add that as an irish human, I of course hope he comes back fit and firing for club and country.

I could be wrong, but I remember seeing a video on the club website during pre season, they were interviewing players and one was asked who puts most effort in during training and I'm (not 100%) sure the answer was Gibson.

As you're the expert... How much longer do you think it would take mr x who eats drinks everything he should than mr y who eats and drinks some things he shouldn't to recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury?

I'm by no means an expert mate - although your obviously trying to be sarcastic anyways with your remark but no matter, i do have a educational background in biology, i do also have an interest in medical and sports science studies on rehabilitation and on how the body recovers from exercise, and one thing that studies on the subject show is that alcohol intake hinders short and long term recovery and development, its why any active athlete is strongly advised to avoid intake, but i guess the clubs and athletes that spend millions upon millions each year hiring sports scientists, nutritionists etc are just wasting their money.

As for how long person x would recover before person y, i honestly have no idea, it depends on a lot of factors, what i can guarantee is that theirs no way on earth that person y recovers faster given all other conditions are equal
