I like Gibbo when he is in form and think he brings something different to the squad...trouble is, between injury and form, I don't think we have seen the best of him regularly since the start of the 2012-2013 season. I don't really count a decent showing in pre-season.
For me he had stopped contributing to the attack with those searching balls forward since that spell a year and a half ago! He was sideways passing like a mofo! So IMO a lot of people should tone down their expectations/hope on what he might bring to this squad and how important he will be.
The drinking thing is of course very speculative and if you want to make something of it, it is just to further your general gripe and agenda against the player because you think he has an unprofessional image or something. Theres a world of a difference between opinion and fact. I think I've even posted once that he comes across badly on twitter, but really that doesn't matter. Fact is we don't know if he adheres to the rehab regime set by the club doctors, maybe they don't have an issue with an odd drink?
edit: should add that as an irish human, I of course hope he comes back fit and firing for club and country.
