It nonsense, first option? What does that term even mean in British football?
If everton ever decide to sell up Rodwell, Fellaini or Barkley in the near future then Man Utd will be at the front of the queue regardless.
First refusal means that if the club are forced to sell, or wish to, then United are given the option to proceed with negotiations first. Just because they will be in for them does not mean the player will join them if someone like chelsea or city come in and offer big buck wages. I think it would be more than a gentlemans agreement if it was true, and things like this go on all the time, far worse stuff goes on in football than a club being given first refusal on a player
