Darron Gibson

You appear desperate to be negative about this. It's quite sad really. Yes, there is the wider issue of how far we've come in the last 2 years to be signing someone for £500k. There is no disguising the perilous state of the club's finances, and this shows just how bad they are. But to be slating this transfer the way it is being done on here by some people is quite kopite IMO. He would have cost about £4m if it wasn't for the fact that he has only 6 months left on his contract. Give the lad a chance to prove himself, and Moyes to get the best out of him. Then make a judgement.

This is what Moyes is best at. When he's had money he hasn't got a brilliant track record in the transfer market, but he's certainly found a few hidden gems and polished them into consistent Prem performers. Gibson finds himself in a similar position to one or two others that have arrived here over the years, (Arteta, Pienaar etc...) and has got a lot to prove. That is usually the kind of player Moyes brings the best out of. I'm quietly hopeful.

Give the lad a chance, we haven't got **** all hope of signing anyone else and he's a body, young and has played for the Premier League Champions.

That's a good point well made Sir. If the value is nearer the 500k mark, I'm finding it a fairly decent move.

Suprised no other clubs had a look at him for 500k,Or his he that average the likes of Qpr,Wolves,Swansea didnt fancy him

I guess it's OK for £500k.

But I can't help but be dissapointed that we wait so long to sign a player for actual money and it turns out to be Darron Gibson.

However, that is a little childish of me so I will give him every chance to impress me. Which shouldn't be too hard given what we've seen this season.

could it be somekind of prelude for jack move...dunno..

Exactly my thoughts. Both similar players. He's a bit like Carrick in that he looks to control tempo of the game, has a decent pass, decent shot. I think he will do alright but he doesn't really excite me. We will see.

I'd say from the clubs you've mentioned QPR have their sights on spunking more money on over rated and over paid mercenaries, whilst Wolves and Swansea (particularly Swansea) are well covered on the central midfield front.

I'm surprised that Stoke haven't had a look at him however, they need a good crisp passer of the ball in midfield. For all of Whitehead, Whelan and Delap's energy they're destructive rather than creative midfielders.

I'm a bit surprised by everyone's reaction to this.

I know, ironically, it's the position we are the strongest and have most cover for but there's no doubt he has quality, Fergie has always been his biggest fan and has spoken highly of him.

However I hope this doesn't mean Barkley gets less chances/game time, but I can't help but think it will, unless Rodwell drops one and plays Centre Half!

But let's give the lad a chance eh?

COYB.

If he passes forward, not sideways - he's a winner.

IMO, we're in the gutter and lucky to have any player willing to come in who's had gametime at a top club. I think he can give us a bit more directness from midfield than what we have already. And if it's £500K initially, it's a ****ing steal. And this lad is looking to catch the eye of Trapatonni for a starting place at the Euros, so he'll be out the blocks looking to make an impression.

My only reservation is that it will mean someone else out. If it's Bily - no problem. If it's Rodwell, then that's something else entirely. We just have to wait on that I suppose.

This comment has been mentioned a lot over the past couple of days and I disagree.
We've got two central midfielders. Rodwell and Felliani. Both of them are unfit at the moment.

Barkley for all of his promise and reputation isn't 100% fit and also untested, I'd love for him to be given the opportunity though.
Cahill, Osman and Bily can't operate as one of two, this has always been the case.
Heitinga is a centre back who can do an emergency job in the middle.
Neville; once a very, very good central midfielder, is now a fullback. And our second choice right back at that.

Ergo, we do, urgently, need some cover. It might not be as apparent as our lack of goals or the fact that our first choice centre halves are injured, but it's needed.
