Darron Gibson - And If You Know Your History

watched the game today on argie telly with argie commentary. they gushed about gibson from start to finish - they noticed we missed him when he went off. they rolled out the full range of tributes for a thinking mans midfielder...

controlled the pace of the game
keeps posession but has killer pass in his locker
excellent workrate
neat and sensible passing
gets up to support attack and defends his back 4

the stats tell us when he plays, we definitely dont lose and probably win. fast becoming irreplacable and possibly our most important player.

I think he has the ability to be our best holding midielder for a quarter of a century.

and trappatoni rates paul green ahead of him, the senile mafiosa bellend. happy if he gets a rest during the week though.

Is it just me that thinks he is carrying an injury?

The mind boggles

He plays like Mad Dog, but doesn't have the recklessness in him.

Would still have Gravesen over him any day.

Ah, no way... did you only start supporting Everton when we got him back on loan?

Shame that, you missed so much.

Gravesen had a very good 6 months, that got him his move to Madrid. He was average for the best part of his Everton career.

I actually meant "you missed so much in those years leading up to the return of Gravesen on loan", but I take your point...

I actually think he was a quality, if erratic, player in a poor side (the last season of Walter) but under Moyes, when he was given the freedom to pull the strings and use his obvious ability on the ball, while other "hard working" players like Tie, Linderoth, and more prominently, Carsley, did the other stuff. The 451 was basically set up with Gravesen in mind, and it worked to perfection. It's no coincidence that the way we tailed off in the 2nd half of that season was because we lost Tommy and Arteta took a while to get settled in.

And he is still 1 of the most skilful players we have had in his position. More so than Arteta I would say. Once he had the ball, you just could not get it off him. His faults where in his positioning and concentration.

Also, he was a proper character, and had a great rapport with the fans.

Tommy was boss.

I love how he was just an absolute head the ball, but didn't care, and acted exactly the same way around fans as he did around his teammates. A lot of the banter and character we have in the dressing room now was initiated by Tommy.
