He’s a blert, but i dont think he is necessarily anti Everton. A pundit can do one of two things, provide intelligent insight into the tactics and skillsets employee during a game, or if theybare incapable, provide controversy. The Murph falls very firmly into the latter category!

Can I add Chris Kamara to the brainless pundit list. Just said on GOS that Williams didn't deliberately handle the ball but it was a penalty. When was the rule changed? I was always told that accidentally handling the ball is not an infringement. Luckily it didn't matter of course but one

Bit of a grey area, but players very rarely deliberately handle the ball. If your hand is above your head, or in an unnatural position though, I think it should be a pen.

People's interpretation of handball is one of the things that annoys me most about football these days. I'd say that the vasy majority of handball decisions aren't clearly deliberate handball as laid down on the laws so shouldn't be given.

It is a tricky one though because only the player knows if he deliberatly handled it but the ref has to make his own decision on whether the player did. There are a set of guidelines that refs use to help them decide but even then it's still not easy. As everyone has probably noticed, a handball shout anywhere else on the pitch is more likely to be given than one in the area just cause it's easier.

The whole "unatural position" stuff complicates things as well. What's unatural? You see defenders holding their arms behind their back when closing down a winger? Well that's unatural but you wouldn't get a foul given against a player who's arms are behind their back, but if they put their hands in front of their face when someone is likely to kick a ball at it, which is perfectly natural, you're more likely to see a foul given.

As for Williams yesterday, was his arm up to deliberatly block the ball going in the goal, or for balance or protection, which are perfectly natural. I understand the ref given it, the arm was up and fairly well away from his head. Not enough for me personally to be clearly deemed deliberate, but as i said, most handball shouts aren't clearly deliberate enough to be given.

This totally....met the guy..very down to earth and affable. He is certainly not an Everton hater. At my niece's wedding ( she is a mad blue) Dion who is now married to her best mate had arranged for some of the efc players to send congratulations to her via a short video.

yeah the rule is now if the arm is in an unnatural position or something like that, in which case williams' were. I dunno, i can see the point of the rule, but why are arms treated differently to the other limbs? Yeah okay, the sport is called "football", but why is stopping a ball with your head different than stopping it with your arm, if they want to keep the emphasis on feet?

I think it's only natural to put your arms up to protect your face like williams did. It's a tad harsh to start giving pen's for that imo.

Not one player complained about the pen.
So I'd say it was a pen.
