I believe Brian Clough was heavily linked during his prime in the 70's.For the Record, and we know this story is a load of crap, but why is a very good/brilliant/excellent boss etc never linked with Everton, when these type of stories come up

so who has the better record all things considered? When you said McClaren had done well unlike Martinez there was obviously a clear reference to our poor form this season and Wigan's relegation. Needed pointing out the things he has done well.
Royle didn't get the job because of the job he did at Oldham though, he got the job because of his connections with this club and he is still pound for pound our best manager of the past 25 yearsThat's not rewriting history, that's just excluding the negative things you want to focus on.
Yes, we've had a terrible first half of the season.
But we've been here before - where would Everton be if they'd sacked Moyes in May 2004, or in December 2005, or in October 2008?
As for Wigan's relegation, nobody harped on about Joe Royle getting Oldham relegated (after keeping them up for years like Martinez did with Wigan) in May 1994 & getting the Everton job 5 months later.
Him and Revie, Clough supposed to have knocked it back as he wanted total control of all football matters, whiich the board woulnt give him, went as far as going to goodison to discuss it.I believe Brian Clough was heavily linked during his prime in the 70's.

And Bobby Robson was offered the job and nearly took it.
As was Andy Gray ?
supposed to have been offerd it more than onceYes in 1998. Think Robson was offered it about 20 years previously though.
