Cycling thread

Did my first bike event today. Didn’t crash, didn’t get hit by some damn Yank in a diesel truck, finished the race. I need to step up my training but it gives me a good sense of what to expect. If I’m crazy I may try a century later this summer.

Was talking to a friend today, realized this was my first organized event in over 15 years*. Jeez I'm old.

Well, outside of a few beer miles, but I would hardly call these organized events.

Just drove past one of the local pros I follow on Strava (Damian Clayton). He lives in a village just near Barnsley, so always good to look at his routes and he's featured on a few YT channels I watch.

He was at Ribble, but is now at Canyon.

That Canyon bike man... So nice

I realise it's perhaps heresy, but there's bugger all difference between bike brands. Over the past few years I've taken to renting bikes on trips abroad to save the fluff of boxing mine up, and of the half a dozen or so bikes I've ridden in that time there's been no discernible difference in performance between any of them. Get a good fit and the right gears and off you go.

Oh yeah, all about the engine on top of them! I just mean it's so nice to look at :D

It's that sky blue version, proper aero race bike obviously though.

Currently in negotiations for this

'cept wheels are different, I'll be honest I'm trying to nail him on a 2 1/2 grand bike when new & might lose out.

well she's got 1 ffs & this costs a tad more so far and weighs less, it's an absolute tank at 7.1kg.

Super light
I don't NEED it to be tbh, but I like to play this game where I try to get the best i possibly can for the least amount.

I could get this that my mates got in his garage, his brother left it behind & doesnt seem too arsed about it. I like the look tbh, but prob looks a bit cack next to all the carbon ones. I've contacted Ribble to try and id/age it. a can of gt85 will have that gleaming.

Got on a large one at the weekend - Went up Foel Grach on the MTB, the top just before Carnedd Lewellyn (Second highest mountain in Wales). Starting from the seaside just up the coast from Conwy, 975m climbing and almost all was rideable - just one steep grassy section that was beyond me and needed a push. Very few mountains in the UK you can ride up like that - a handful in Scotland.

Coming down wasn't so good, didn't pick a great track - routes off were either mega-tech death on wheels or super smooth grass motorways. Wanted something in between but ended up taking a grassy sheep track that was only OK. You can plan for ages on the maps but you never really know how it will ride until you're on the trail.

Now that's what I call a granny ring lol

Was watching Paris-Nice highlights and two observations, one obvious and one newb: that Roglic, he's very good isn't he (although I see he didn't win)? Also, what's with the "clown car" horn on support cars. Is that a polite way to let riders know when you're passing? Surely that's not how horns sound in Europe?
