Cycling thread

I like multiple chiefs; you just have to make sure that the the ones you send ahead can win the race and that tactics are clear. Knowing Quickstep they'll open early, in casu de muur van Geraardsbergen. I'd tell Gilbert to start there.

Oh and fallout from Gent-Wevelgem; http://www.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20170329_02806369. If Quickstep can't win the race they'll make Sagan loses it. Though in all fairness I believe Wilfried meant it as a joke.

I seen this, this morning. Honestly, I Thought he just lost his balance but I don't know.

RVV will be good, it should be a shootout between GVA sagan and Gilbert, I think Sagan will win.

You can see it better here: http://m.sporza.be/#!/snippet/58dc1284c9976f06001e8559 . (click the film)

Handing out bodychecks isn't allowed and especially not on the Kemelberg, very dangerous and unrespectful. It's not Keirin.

He may be a diva, but at least he can...

Or this ...

He apologised btw but jury will be keeping a close eye on him.

There is a 12 hour long live program now on television (or stream) about a journalist who's riding the rvv parcours . It's nuts; in some places there is an audience. Loads of riders everywhere.

Sceptical at first but it's brilliant slow television.

Some tragic news last night - legendary endurance racer Mike Hall was killed in the India-Pacific race in Australia in collision with a car.

Bound to generate a lot of soul-searching in that community - Mike was duelling it out with Kristof Allegert of Belgium at the front and had done 5000km in 12 days. Just off the scale, but at what cost.
RIP Mike

He's undoubtedly a bit of a nut, but I like him. He brings an awful lot to races. When's the sportive on? Is that tomorrow or earlier on Sunday?

Aye, saw that. Always sad when any cyclist loses their life on the roads. 5,000km in 12 days is utterly bonkers.

Few of my club are going over to do it, think it's tomorrow. Couple of hard men doing the long one, 230 km. Be keen to hear how they get on as I might pencil it in for next year if it's a good event.

Aye, that and Roubaix would be fantastic events I reckon, but at 58kg I'd be bounced all over the place. The best events for me are the ones where the locals get into it, and I'm sure that's the case with Flanders, and is also true of things like the Maratona.

Yes but he has to respect others.

Saturday.

Your weight doesn't matter that much it's more your technique. It is easier when you're a bit more heavy though, but you can still do more than okay.

They've limited the event. Maximum of 16000 competitors. So nowadays you have to be quite fast to be able to participate. Around half of them are foreigners, 60 nationalities; 3300 Dutchmen (not really foreign) and 2300 Brits. I prefer riding the parcour outside of the event. My stepsister lives next to the Koppenberg.

I know this thread is more about road racing but has anyone ever cycled the Vennbahn (Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg)?

It's something i would like to do but a few reviews and tips would be helpful.

Top 10 nationalities 2017

  1. 7.764 Belgen
  2. 2.853 Nederlanders
  3. 2.341 Britten
  4. 911 Fransen
  5. 844 Italianen
  6. 495 Duitsers
  7. 246 Spanjaarden
  8. 192 Noren
  9. 187 Amerikanen
  10. 155 Denen

Have to say quite disappointing that only 5431 ride the 237 km.

Oh and Fabian is there too; only rides the small tour though...
