Any tips on pedaling/stroke form? Or is this just a neuromuscular change that takes time? When I’m not thinking I find myself mashing the pedals but if I concentrate I can do upstrokes, until I hit a harder effort and revert to mashing. I’ve read about concentrating on smooth circles but that doesn’t yet feel intuitive.
Maybe do some single leg drills?

What’s this? Just unclip and ride on one leg for a few rotations? I can add that, plenty of flat sections. Does this create a falling hazard? (I still don’t have great balance)
I think it's supposed to help you get a smooth pedal stroke as you have to pull and push in equal measure. Obviously you're not aiming for speed so any flat section will do (or on the indoor trainer).

Just bought a bike for the Mrs, she started going out on the mountain bike when had a running injury and now wants to do a duathlon so wanted a road bike. On ebay & marketplace there were loads of bikes that folk have paid £600 for and never use so are selling for £300-400 BUT for that price or not much more there are carbon ones (available although tend to go quickly), bided my time and got her a 51cm (short arse) Jamis Xenith Race (2012) Full Carbon & it's definitely been well looked after/ not used much.
£330 for a bike that retailed at a penny short of £2000 when new & weighs 7.7kg.

coincidentally it appears to be the correct size for me as well.

& I don't care what you Fixie Fanboys reckon cos at the end of the day I've an arse in Lycra that your birds are envious of.

Can anyone recommend a 3 bike car rack for about 150?
Tow bar mount is best IME, but obv you need a tow bar. The mount is then very simple and not too costly - I have a thule one but there are loads around the same design. Strictly speaking you then also need a light / reg board, but this is only 20quid from Halfords or gooutdoors.

Roof bars are bad for me as it would only be a matter of time before I ploughed the bikes into a low roof, but prob most people are not as absent-minded as I am. Even then, though, it tans the mpg and it's awkward putting heavier mountain bikes up on the roof.

The cheaper boot mount racks will do in a pinch - they don't feel as secure but in reality most are pretty solid, I've used a saris bones one in the past. Just that if it did fall off on the road with three bikes it could cause a terrible accident so even 1% less secure doesn't feel good. The straps will also scratch fk out of your car over time, so not great if you have a nice motor.

I forgot to say in my initial post. I had my heart set on a towbar one and just assumed my car had one, it doesn't :(

Yeah not sure I'm comfortable with a roof one and I've also heard the same about the boot ones scratching your car. I'll have to just keep looking.

Thanks.

Tow bar is around £2-300 depending on car (as you don't need fancy electrics), so I guess it comes down to how much you will use it. If it's just now and again then prob not worth it and a rack will be OK.

I've been wanting to switch to a van for a while, but last year has not been a great time to buy. Might look again now and see what's available.

How is the clipless coming along @Deulofeumygod? I haven’t fallen yet in 2021 I think, though I do still have some scar tissue from early scrapes.

Haha well, it did not start well.

I decided after 30 mins going up and down this path and clipping in and out that a couple of days later I was ready to go into the Kent hills and tackle the second most difficult hill: Brasted Hill, known as [Poor language removed] Hill.

Cue me forgetting i'm not in trainers anymore and stopping 3/4s up and then falling over and then when I tried to start again, I fell again and had to walk up the last bit! Proper comedy.

I then decided a few days after that to do 100k in the Surrey hills and in total fell 6 times and bruised my ass but more annoyingly, bent my gear hanger so bike is not sounding good right now. Mate said he would fix it.

Having realised I have bit off more than I can chew, yesterday I went into the park just to practise and did not fall once and that went well.

I will get there but am finding it stressful on roundabouts and in traffic but have worked out how to clip out and just keep my foot on the pedal but not clip in which seems to be working well.

The difference in effort going up hills is incredible though and knee feels good.

Been on any nice rides recently?

I'd love to have everyone's strava accounts, love seeing what people are up to.
