Froome has to back it up tomorrow...which might just mean his team has to bring him along until the last bit then off he goes...fairplay to him so far

Its not just Froome. Im afraid its us postal all over again. They will be protected for years.

Thomas out climbing Contador, Nibali, Bardeut, Rodriguez and co. Come off it. The whole team is juiced off their tits.

The whole history of Froome reeks of Armstrong

Bit of a waste of time watching it if you think like that isn't it?

I agree, just find myself watching it in case something happens. I love the sport. What i dont love is seeing a team with the biggest budget, who hire loads of 'dubious' doctors dominating Grand tours with a rider who has come from nowhere.

ive seen it all before.

I dunno about all these numbers you're throwing around as normal? Gesink was about 5.8 w/kg, Quintana 5.9 w/kg which was slightly above what we've seen from Tour Winners for the last four years. Froome was between 6.1-6.2 w/kg but as it was an attack halfway then 5.9 w/kg for 20mins then 6.5 w/kg for 20mins. In isolation proves nothing yet after that run in to the mountain and being on the bike that long? Mad that for a normal effort.
Dunno either way, I like Sky and I have no axe to grind I'm just interested you're throwing numbers around like the above is totally expected and normal for 41mins, it's kind of pretty impressive to say the least!!

I'll expand slightly,
First of all, it puts into perspective the enormous power output required to be competitive in the mountains. You’ll find that you have to be able to sustain a power output above 6W/kg.

In fact, since the mid-90s, 6.2 W/kg seems to be the minimum requirement, apart from the “aberration” of 1999 when the Tour was on full alert after the fiasco of 1998 and Festina-gate. Physiologically speaking, riding at 6.2 W/kg for up to 40 minutes is quite extra-ordinary. Elite athletes are usually able to sustain power outputs between 80% and 90% of maximum for a prolonged time. If a rider is able to sustain a power output of 6.3 W/kg for 30 minutes, then you can infer their peak power output will be somewhere between 7 and 7.5 W/kg, incredibly high.

If you are a cyclist who monitors your own power output, then, work out what 6.3 W/kg means for you (say, 520 W), and next time you are riding on a slope of about 7 to 9%, try to hold that power output for as long as possible. It is an eye-opener, that is for sure.

Everyone is getting silly because those numbers are from known days of doping, you can't say the working out is 100% but it's not going to be far off and you really are talking Armstrong/Riis levels coming out.

yeah never really much liked his commentary....it's a world different to Eurosport's style
Liggett's got a nice manner about him (pseudo Scouser), but by God the cliches him and Sherwen come out with. Truly could play bingo with them, in this, the sport of professional bicycle racing. He's also getting a bit past it as far as calling live action goes.

He's a cycling man, though, through and through. Been involved in the sport all his life, even turned the pedals in anger himself in his younger days.

To be honest though, they don't dominate grand tours. Of the 16 or so grand tours since they've been around, they've dominated 2 of them. They've had decent stabs at another handful but have far from dominated.

They've also had a notable lack of success in the classics, with not a single monument victory in their five years in existence. I'm not sure they've even had a podium in that time.

For sure it's remarkable, but then elite athletes are pretty remarkable aren't they? I'm probably above average as a cyclist, but the best guys took 2 hours out of me in the Maratona. It was similar in swimming. I was in the same youth team as Darren Mew, and he was liked greased lightening. Incredibly quick, and far better than me (as a humble county level swimmer).

It's sad in many ways that we associate exceptional performances so readily with doped performances.
