Current Affairs Culture wars & The rise of grifting

Do you think they really believe it? The more important question isn't why grifters peddle whatever they think will find an audience as why a publication like the Standard is happy to trash its reputation publishing such nonsense.
I don’t think the people writing that garbage believe it, but there are plenty of hogs in the UK who are stupid enough to believe it.

I do agree with them willingly lowing their journalistic standard to the floor with stories like this, much like how the Torygraph’s standards have dropped off the face of the earth to writing inane stories about “woke”

Suggesting people drink water is both woke and bullying.

Not really unless you only read the article and try and guess the content from the headline, it's a diatribe against a creeping nanny state. A perfectly reasonable thing to print in a free society.

She’s calling things like advising to carry water ‘woke bullying’

As a tourist, having travelled on the tube in summer, think this is pretty sound advice tbh.

Her brother put out almost exactly the same signs when he was mayor fifteen years ago, and keeping yourself hydrated in a heatwave has been medical advice since at least Roman times. How is it a "creeping nanny state"?

Funny enough last time I was on the tube, I saw a lad ask some women he didn’t know if they had some water for him. This was to wash down a valium or a Xanax mind but if he’d have heeded this advice he would have saved himself from the embarrassment and the disgusted looking sneers from fellow passengers

"The point I’m trying to make is London used to be a place to where you escaped from school, or “the country”, or the suburbs, or your boring home town as it was adult, it was fun, it was wild — and therefore, yes, dangerous at times (there were more than 200 arrests at Carnival last year).
Now all the excitement is in the country — where life really is shag, drink, ride and die — while London is like a great big toddler soft-play centre with everyone being told to stay safe and carry their baby sucky bottles of water at all times."

It's a polemic, if you didn't enjoy reading it then it wasn't written with you in mind...or maybe it was :P
Vive le difference.

I know it’s a polemic, but I can still say it’s batshit crazy with more sinister undertones

Of course you can mate, but I would hope that anyone at least attempting to lead an examined life, would leave open the possibility and a slither of awareness that in doing that you are then mind reading, and very likely on the basis that you think anyone who doesn't share your particular worldview must have something wrong with them. (this will be one of the reasons your more evolved grand kids with updated operating systems will consider you an old bigot)

Sure I get that and I (like to think) I’m fairly open minded when it comes to different opinions and worldviews, but anyone who uses the term ‘woke’ in a non ironic way is quite clearly a rasping bloater.

If public health awareness is the example of a creeping nanny state you are fighting in the name of free speech, then you are chatting utter bubbles and deserve to be mocked.

So London is a big toddler soft play centre where there were 200 arrests at the carnival last year?
You’re tired and confused mate. Have a nice sit down and a glass of water. Then imagine that you’ve actually been to London.lol

This non sequitur must be a symptom of the of the level reading comprehension that could interpret anything I've posted as an endorsement of the content of the article.
It's just amusing to watch grown ups get outraged about it, it's analogous to the right wing free speech warriors all of a sudden crying about the Barbie movie.

I was referring to Johnson and her insincere attempts to paint London as a lost hedonistic paradise in a thinly veiled guise of pushing her phony culture wars by attacking a well meaning and probably statistically viable health message, it is correctly being mocked and her awful article more is analogous of the reaction to Barbie than a few lads laughing at on here. But, you most likely knew this already and it feels like this is your play to position yourself as the zen centralist of the pack.

You should be outraged about it though - if she was just a hack, living on her own wits it would be one thing but she is quite a prominent cog in a system that has for as long as this country existed struggled to keep us down so that they can have a very enjoyable life.
