Todays big bag of bullspit...

laughing gas canisters, the cops are struggling with rape cases and domestic violence cases (often amongst the rank and file of their fellow officer) so upping the ante on this front appears somewhat counter productive.
How long before some old dear from the WI that's knocking out cream cakes for the village faire gets a baton around the ear hole for possession?

This country is insane.

In fairness, it`s a massive problem around by me with the kids.

Especially at the weekends, there`s gangs of kids all over the place, off their heads on the stuff.

Some of them look as young as 10/11.

Isn't it rather difficult to criminalize 10 year olds? I mean I realize plod need to get their kicks somewhere https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65081765 where are kids getting money for this crap from? who's selling this rubbish? There was a Doctor on the news earlier that said clean up is easy, make turning the empties in worth 10p per returned item. It'll help certain sections of society (I think this was a reference to homeless) , he also mentioned he is unsure on the harm the gas does, by comparison with three thousand alcohol related incidents week on week.
So far as kids go, they've been forgotten, so it's no wonder they end up knocking about getting up to mischief, they're bored and resentful and pissed off. And now the fuzz has another lever with which to harass them.

Broke & Broken Britain.

The newsagent by us, sells all kinds of stuff to kids under the counter.

Another one down the road, has a licence and sells ale and wine to them.

Both sell stuff to the kids, at massive mark ups.

The police and trading standards shut one down, but they appealed and won.

At one point during last Summer, there was sometimes up to 50 - 100 congregating in the evenings, a lot of them off their heads on all kinds of stuff.

It got that bad, that the police ended up setting up an exclusion zone around the shops.

It was causing living hell for the people that lived around there or who wanted to use the shops.

The age of the kids ranged from about 10 - 16, boys and girls and it was only a matter of time, before one of them got properly filled in or ran over.

Anyone who tried to remonstrate with them, either got accused of being a kiddy fiddler, threatened with violence or both.

A lot of the kids were from good homes and schools too.
It was just mob mentality.

If anything the police were too lenient with them, as if they’d cracked down on them early, the situation would never have got as bad as it did.

The court backlog (a mess of tory making) is horrific, so let's process and destroy the lives of kids for a minor issue and increase that backlog.

So that's immigrants, asylum seekers (browns only), trans folk and the youth in general. Tories playing all their faves before election time

It is and increasingly so, but being punitive for headlines and not even going the near the actual causes of the problem is very frustrating.

It’s absolutely a headline grabber and nothing more , the only health risk is chronic overuse which is something like 14 (around that ) a day so almost certainly all but negligible.

The plod are hardly able to deal with the huge amount of actual crimes that are out there never mind the new trivial reinvented stuff . I heard someone saying the real problem is people can see the cannisters which is the issue . Maybe If you wanted to tackle that , put a 50p returnable deposit on each cannister then you’d have the streets cleaned in a heartbeat.
