I don't even blame him for being gash, I blame Koeman for abandoning him with us.
That’s it in a nutshell. Martina is what he is for all to see. Koeman brought him in believing he could cover left back too, so failed to register Garbutt and let Galloway and Connolly go out on loan, all better cover at left back. And let’s not go there with the right back decision of not playing Kenny earlier.

No, Holgate doesn't deserve to be moved out of position, I'd give one of the u23s a go at lb in midweek
It's absolutely shocking we have gone into the season with one aging injury prone left back. Of the four players who could provide cover, one was ruled out by injury for the whole season, 2 were sent out on loan (1 on deadline day) and the 4th was not included in either the PL or EL squads. On top of that we knew our 1st choice right back was out until the new year at the very earliest.

21yo Holgate and 20yo Kenny, playing in their proper positions in front of a 23yo keeper, are the only things holding our pathetic defence together, and that's only come about due to luck and injuries. It would be madness to move either of them out of position.

If Keane is now fully fit again I'd probably move him in alongside Holgate as Williams is a liability, same as Jagielka. Neither are as sharp as they used to be and are both guilty of mistiming tackles in and around the box because of it. I saw the same thing happen to Carragher across the park but he had enough nous to get out. Neither of them are good enough at this level any more.

At left back we either need to continue with Martina, or try one of the kids. Not Feeney. I'd have him cover at CB until we can bring somebody else in. Either Matty Foulds or Lewis Gibson, both left footers. Foulds has a bit more experience at U23 level so I'd probably go with him.

It would most likely be the youngest back 5 ever played in the Premier League, but we have history in this regard. Our defence that started the 1984/85 season comprised Big Nev (25), Gary Stevens (21), Degsy Mountfield (21), Ratters (23 capt) Psycho Pat (23).

Sorry mate you’re wrong, with his better physicality Lewis Gibson would be better left back cover than Foulds :)

I'll happily bow to your greater knowledge.;) Somebody told me Foulds has filled out a lot though. Plus he's played a lot at LB for the U23s this season. I think either would probably be a better proposition than Martina though. He just isn't good enough.

League One-standard.

Embarrassing that between a manager, his staff and a director of football, they couldn't account for an injury to an ageing Baines when 'planning' last summer.
