I think he started off perfectly fine and if Dominic wasn't having an utter mare in front of him he'd have looked better than that. Got caught out of position a couple of times later but didn't do anywhere near as badly as some of you are suggesting. Also he's nowhere near full fitness yet and that team, despite their lack of quality, are fully match fit. Maybe he'll get better, maybe he won't but he wasn't "turbo gash" or owt like it today.

Hiding to nothing, most had him as worst player on pitch before he even arrived at the ground. Give the guy a chance, they all looked shaky

he was always going to be written off. He's not crap of course, but he does stay way too far up the pitch for my liking for a defender, you'd feel that's alright against teams like this who just sit back for the full 90, but then it does also give a team a weakness to aim at on the counter. I think holgate may start the second leg.
Except he's going to be for at least the first 3 months of the season isn't he?
Which means he had very low expectations to exceed, and still failed to meet even them.
As said though, I hope that's the worst he can offer and we won't see it again, as it was a terrible first impression.

Cuco' put a few good crosses in in the second half and also played some nice passes. He's obviously not as bad as some of the genius posters on here assume. Klaussen had a great chance from Cuco cross, and Rooney made a complete blox of another Cuco cross.
But he was the worst player on the pitch
