Southampton fan falls for Chico 101 wummery...more to the point, we're signing CB's and now maybe a RB, which seems OK for the 'now' from a supporters point of view. But it isn't the best sort news Holgate and other kids would like to hear...but as @ijjysmith says; the boss is the boss.

Pennington is out injured for months mate.

Kenny and Connolly are both 19. There is literally plenty of time.

If they were ready they'd play.

I'm of the opinion that if they were ready (like Holgate) they'd play.

They obviously aren't and Koeman's job is to be the judge of that. He said last week he wanted to fully assess the squad, including young players, in pre-season and that's what he's done.
 
He's an inexperience option who may benefit the U23 squad as an overage player rather than the first team but Koeman obviously sees it as strengthening needed in that area, so be it. If Holgate is better then I don't doubt Koeman will prefer him when needed.

I really do enjoy when supporters of other teams visit here and gives us their views on players, managers, etc. It makes me sad when they are met with 'sodd off back to little Soton'-comments. I appologize for some of the bad behaviour, we're a proud bunch, Evertonians, and sometimes that pride comes out in shait ways. I like Soton, and wish you guys a great season ahead.
