Cuco Martina

I've gone through it before but we've always been a club that prides ourselves on our academy and the development of young players. Koeman cut that off, albeit with a benefit of our highest league finish but our fans/board were never truly in love with Koeman due to it.

Sure you'll see the same thing with the likes of Holgate and Davies.
Didn't he come out and say that your academy players just weren't that good? I remember one started against us at St Mary's and got absolutely ripped apart. Anyway Koeman's given Holgate his debut and started him in every game so far so it seems like if the player's good enough he'll play.

From the little I've seen, Martina would struggle to start on a Championship side. I'm not sure why we need him at Everton. When it comes to backups, I prefer younger players who have the potential to compete with the starter in a year or two. Martina will be 27 next month and the only benefit I can see is that he "should" be dirt cheap and might allow our young players to go out on loan and get more experience.

Bottom line, it's hard to be excited about a 3rd string right back from Southampton.

Koeman knows him, you dont (I assume..).

I did like what I saw of Kenny but I am going to trust Koeman on this one if he wants the player.

you're too trusting for me, seems the easy option to clog up the squad with average players rather than give our own a proper chance.

That's the way I sort of see it in this situation, even though this lad would come cheap, is he actually that much better than any of the young lads we have who could add cover for Coleman, also, you could see the sense in getting him as back - up if he had loads of premiership experience, but he has only played 15 league games for Southampton, and now they don't rate him good enough for their squad.

True. I rather Holgate and Browning as RB backup...to be honest.

Maybe Koeman thinks it's unfair to put a youth player in a position he has to perform. Agree with all the calls that Martina isn't up to Premiership standards though. Underwhelming signing to say the least, but Koeman seemingly trusts him.

Here's hoping for an injury free season for Seamus after he returns from his current one.

About as pointless a signing as i can think of. This next week better see some players of calibre brought in as I am really getting fed up, proper let down so far this window.

I don't personally believe it but it's easy to understand why people are calling bullshiz over the new owner. Ploughing money into getting a new stadium is cool but we need to see things improve in the league and i feel we are short of quality.

Just looks like we had no back up plan if our top targets didn't come off.

£1.25m - it's very possible that he'll actually be behind Holgate in the pecking order. Taking Pennington's place while he's out injured and then perhaps goes on loan in Jan.

You mean like buying Gana instead of Carvalho, going for Kone instead of Koulibaly, being credibly linked to both Gabbiadini and Perez for a striker, Hart/Begovic/Patricio for goalie, Ghezzal/Brahimi for a winger...

Hart the only credible link there, the club doesn't leak. It's the last week of the window, I think Gana would have been purchased anyway as he was highly rated by Walsh. Gabbiadini and ghezzal have popped up last week, it's called panic buying.

I think Gana and Bolasie are two excellent signings. They will both bring added energy that was sadly lacking these last few seasons.
I agree we need to add more but if we can find 3 more players of similar ability in the required positions I actually think we will have a very competent and capable team. I will actually be happier when Ross and Rom sign new deals.

Still a week of the window to go...

Like I said above, I think Gana would have been a target anyway, Walsh knew all about him. He's been really good so far.

My whole point was we are short and needed certain areas strengthening which haven't been and I'm not particularly happy about it. Under no circumstances should we have just one first team striker this late it's neglectful, we have been thankful Stek has had a good start but we all knew we needed a real first team keeper.
