Just a heads up for anyone that's made more money on crypto trading than would be covered by your CGT allowance, that HMRC have you in their sights.

Hopefully any Tory boy who might be liable for the tax, has set aside a few notes to cover this possibility ...

Interesting that BTC is 68% of the whole Crypto market, which means it has gained significant market share. So unless you were were overweight in BTC then chances are your crypto portfolio is getting whacked

That said it was impressive how BTC held the 3k mark and then went on to quadruple. Take the money and run. It's still heading to pennies..

Fair play, you absolutely nailed the top there, fella lol

Tbf, one of my mates did exactly the same thing - came on boasting about his massive gains the exact day of the high.

Perhaps the moral of this tale is that you should never boast too soon to random strangers on the internet (or even to people you have known for years, come to that).

Anyway, had a different mate ripping the first this week about all his crypto losses since then. Could this be the same effect in reverse, I am wondering?

Feel free to refer back to this post next year, should we go on another massive rip from here ;)

BTC has held up much better than nearly all the altcoins, being merely down about 65% from its early 2018 fomo peak, and this is masking the ongoing bearmarket in this asset class.

By contrast, just looking at a couple of the other well known cyptos:

ETH is down well over 90%, LTC down about 85%, EOS down about 85% too

They sound like bargains!

Yeah tbh the fundamentals of BTC - energy use of a small country, Chinese concentration of hashing power etc and so on - are awful and it probably doesn't have much of a future in its current form. OTOH, the price doesn't seem to be much connected to the fundamentals.

Caveat emptor.

You'll be lucky to get your money back. Better investing in the FTSE 100...
