It's quite simple. I have lived in Perth for 29 years, only 3 of them as an Australian citizen.
So for 26 years I could have been correctly described as either from Perth, or a foreign national. But I think "from Perth" would be more apt asn"foreign national" gives the impression that I don't live here.

But why does it bother you which term they use?

People are allowed to feel frustrated by whatever they want - just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t mean you can dismiss it that freely. You have no idea how immigration impacts the OP.
