Selectors are going to have to make a tough decision regarding Stokes in the T20 side. I'm not sure he makes the best 11 on current form, and Livingstone is the better option.

He can win a game by himself but not sure it's going to happen as often in this format.

He's Ben Stokes though.
Take a brave man to leave him out with all that he offers to any side he's in.

No Parkinson, England's aversion to leg spin continues. If he can't get picked for Pakistan he'll never play for the Test team.

Read yesterday that he was replaced as concussion this summer too, they don't really fancy him

Shame, as his season did dip after playing in the Test game, but he was outstanding in the early part. Hartley may have a chance given he can bat

They're banking on Livingstone's ragbag of spin ; his record in the longer form of the game is also pretty ropey, a strange decision for me.

Will Jacks played all summer as Surrey's main spinner.

He's followed the Livingstone route of a batsman expanding his skills to give him a better chance of being selected. Delighted to see both of them in the squad.

I can only think they've told Parky that until he learns to vary his pace he won't be selected. If so it's up to him - does he want to continue as a fine county leg-spinner, or does he really want to step up into Test cricket? Some players don't like the extra scrutiny that comes with being a test player, others, like Ballance, are too stubborn to change their technique.

Jacks, 17 wickets at 44, Parkinson 33 at 30. Parkinson 30th in the bowling averages, Jacks not in the top 80. It looks like they're continuing their policy of bowlers who can bat. Perhaps his criticism earlier in the season about people not selecting spinners might be a factor.

Yes maybe. They are certainly looking for someone who can bat as the 2nd spinner.

I think Surrey took the decision to use Jacks as their main spinner - instead of Virdi who was himself mentioned as an England prospect a couple of years ago - because their seam bowling attack had the most depth of any side in the country, so they could afford to use someone who's more of a batsman as he would rarely be needed as a bowler.

I agree with the decision not to pick Parky btw, especially if they are not completely happy with his bowling. He can't bat, his fielding is poor even by county standards, so his bowling has to be top rate.

I wondered if they'd pick a genuine reserve wicketkeeper but it looks like they've gone with Pope and Duckett in the absence of Bairstow.

Just had a look at the schedule : no warm up games, and three tests in 21 days, so probably why it's a slimmed down squad.

I think a Lions squad is set to be names to play warm up games against the Test squad in Abu Dahbi, presumably after the world cup. Rumoured that the young Leicestershire spinner Rehan Ahmed will be in the squad, and possibly stay with the Test squad for experience and cover. You would think they could play at least one warm actually in Pakistan.

Parky too maybe? If not they've definitely sent him a message they want him to work on his game!

Third warm up game abandoned due to rain. England made 112-2 (12 overs), Buttler 65 off 41 balls. Chasing a revised target of 130 Australia reached 30-3 (3.5 overs) Woakes 3-4.
Bit of a worry the amount of rain around Australia at the moment with the World Cup starting on Sunday.
