How is young Alsop doing now? Started poorly it seemed but has his eye in now. Definitely a talent but always seemed to lack confidence at Hants.

He has done really well,has consistency in his batting and has had some tremendous knocks in the last few games. Also keeping wicket in the Royal London,doing it well. Has now signed a permanent contract which is great news. A good replacement for Ben Brown.

Same here. Strange that my plans changed completely within the space of about 15 minutes of the new ball.

Lancashire youngsters Harry Singh and Matthew Hurst both scored centuries for England U19 in the 2nd test against Sri Lanka at Derby. Sri Lanka narrowly won a thrilling 1st test, which featured a century by Lancs' George Bell. Opener Singh was 98no at the end of the 1st day but completed his century before being bowled for 104 off a Boycott-like 304 balls. Hurst was much quicker, his 116 coming off 189 balls before his dismissal just before the close of the 1st day.

Bell isn't playing in this game, presumably injured but England have called up more players with county 1st team experience in Rew of Somerset, impressive against Lancs this season, Lawes of Surrey and James Sales of Northants.

….terrific recovery from Lancs and a magnificent knock by Villas. Shame there appeared a obsession with the paddle shot in those final overs.

High scoring pitch and I suspect Lancs will have to bowl Sussex out to prevent them winning but they have 300+ on the board and should be competitive.

….brilliant win for Lancs, 65-5 at one stage in their innings before Villas turned things around. Well captained by Keaton Jennings, a cup final to look forward to next month.
