Cricket

Hes done it well for Rajasthan in the past. You cant have an opener wasting deliveries like Roy is doing. Give Stokes the responsibility and he will thrive on it.

No one is going to convince me Milan is better in that no.3 role than Root either.
Totally agree about Roy. Been saying it in here for a while. He's a good player but bang out of form. Wastes a few overs scratching around and then gets out.

Also not convinced by Malan. Think he's better suited to 50 over cricket. Would rather leave root out because he's so important to the test side.

Plenty of exciting YOUNG T20 batters coming through. I expect the likes of Will Smeed, if he has a good Hundred, to be included in the squad in the near future.
Seems that England are also looking at the young leggy, Ahmed, to fast track in too

The T20 blast and the hundred can't both coexist long term. And I know the counties don't like to hear it, but an 18 team tournament is not a good product and the standard of the hundred is far better and more condensed.
Agree with that Tim, but the Hundred has had far more money and promotion thrown at it than the T20 ever has, and that extra money allows them to attract some top quality overseas players.

The domestic T20 needs reforming even if the 100 didn't exist. I know it's a cash-cow for the counties but there are far too many games. At the moment it's possible for a team to lose 6 out of 14 qualifying games and still win the tournament! I'm sure it wouldn't be beyond the great minds at the ECB to come up with a format which would solve that and make it equally marketable as the Hundred. There's 8 teams in the Hundred so a 1st Division of 8 or 9 county teams should be feasible, with the same number of overseas allowed, whatever that is, followed by semi-finals and final. Tough on the 2nd Division teams but they would have promotion to play for.

For me it's The Hundred that should go, but I won't be holding my breath.

They need to pick which one they want to focus on is my main point. An 18 team tournament is far too many teams. That's even far more than the IPL. At the minute, the hundred is the format that works far better.

The 8 game regular season followed by a couple of straight knockout games is just far better for the casual viewer than 14 games, quarters, semis, final. And you can't attract overseas players in a condensed schedule when a tournament lasts so long.

Well yes I agree with you - 1 tournament not 2, 18 team tournament too many, 14 group games too many.

For me:

County championship should be 5 days with 3 of them Friday - Sunday and it should start earlier and end later.

The RLC should be open to all teams like the FA cup

Pick between the Hundred and T20. My preference wiggle be for the T20 to align with international standards, but if the ECB are dead set on the 100 keep that and expanding it beyond the current county based 'city' model - to be cities that can host the games. Might be a struggle given the entire infrastructure is based on Counties but that's what needs to happen if you push for towns/cities.

Good suggestions, all food for thought.

The 5 day idea is one I've heard before. Good idea but my only problem with it is that I suspect they would use it to reduce the fixtures in the Championship.

I like the idea of the RLC opening up to all teams like the FA Cup. Straight knockout.

Inspection at Sedbergh at 1.30, purely notional I would imagine. Lancashire's game the only match affected by weather, who'd have thought it. lol
