Cricket

They scored about 30 in his two overs though. Anderson showed him how its done. Should have been all out for about 70 odd there

Jimmy still unplayable in those conditions. And yeah, could easily have been 20 or 30 fewer. England need to knuckle down now and if they are still batting an hour after tea tomorrow, then the game is over. Any lead over 100 is insurmountable in those conditions.

See how we bat tomorrow... Despite losing nearly 2 days the game is moving on at a decent pace. Still the chance of a result. Cricket finished, off to watch man utd win if only to pee the RS off :drunk:

Better than them I'd say

Good to see India thought dropping a seamer for a spinner was a great idea on a seaming wicket.

Who picks their team?

Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli aka dumb and dumber

It was extremely tough batting in perfect conditions for seam bowling and after winning an excellent toss there was never any real dilemma about what to do for Root.

Everyone knew about day one's washout and a full day of rain yesterday and the cloudy conditions overhead today in which they would be starting, so it's important to note the sides were selected today before the toss with what looked a seamers paradise in prospect.

All of which makes me completely clueless as to why India axed seamer Umesh for a second spinner, it's as if they were trying to pick the correct side for Edgbaston a test too late. They seemed to take no real notice of the drastically changed pitch, climate or the conditions ideally suited to seam bowling. Its possibly more mystifying considering Lords doesn't usually turn too much and its possibly only a three day game in cool conditions, this even despite England's problems with spin. For me four seamers had to be the way.

Anyway it was at least a fairly democratic batting performance this time, no complaints about anyone scoring all the runs and hogging the limelight as they all got out cheaply

I would be completely naive if I didnt recognise the possibility of England collapsing in a heap tomorrow and repeating today, with Ishant or Shami perhaps the heroes, you can never tell how good or awful a score is until both teams have batted. Although tbf I can't see it, not to the extent India did today anyway.

I'm sure Jimmy would gladly box those conditions up and take them around the world with him but didn't he look good? Absolutely class, both ends, versus top and bottom order. Textbook Jimmy- 14 odd overs of sheer excellence.

And how about Chris Woakes? His spell (even when the sun shone and things started to look a bit benign) was an examination and the Indian players just couldn't handle it.

Obviously it was a great toss to win but in that scenario, with time lost, you need 100 all out to have a sniff and they obliged beautifully.

India need to be worried about their application against the moving ball - and I include Kohli, who was lucky to make his 20 odd... He won't have made many more streaky 20s than that.
