Cricket

Sounds like the side is

Burns
Sibley
Hameed
Root
Bairstow
Buttler
Ali
Curran
Robinson
Wood
Anderson

Extra bowling option without weakening the batting significantly. Ali and Curran both probably more 8s than 7s is the only concern.

The bowlers selected are ideal for Lords but Sibley opening is wrong. He plays with no confidence and his only attribute is he bats for a longish time, playing risk free cricket. That’s ok if you are scoring at more than a run every other ball but he scores about about one in three balls. Just not good enough, bet he scores a century!

So something like

Burns
Hameed or Sibley
Crawley or Sibley
Root
Bairstow
Buttler
Ali
Curran
Robinson
Overton
Wood

Not in definite batting order?

Yes exactly. It would have been Sibley/Hameeb for me. I mean, Hameeb seems an odd pick to me. After a brilliant 1st season he now averages just under 34. You discount that 1st season and he is probably averaging under 30. I mean there aren't a lot of players making a mountain of runs, and he is a good age, but I am not certain on him. The thing with Bracey and Lawrence is that they both scored v heavily in an A tour of Australia recently (scoring big hundreds and maybe even a double). I tend to prefer that as a barometer. I know Bracey looks all at sea, but he normally bats up the order, doesn't keep etc and it just felt like he was set up to fail a bit. He was ahead of Haseeb before, so I do wonder if we are swayed by a bad game or 2 (under very challenging circumstances).

I'm not going to go into enormous detail on my Sibley V Crawley selection. I think it's a really poor decision. One player is much younger and looks like he can be a Test player, the other just looks miles off, has had a lot longer and his record is some way off. It feels another poor call.

As for the above that makes sense. I can see why they'd go Anderson over Overton and why Wood stays in the team. He is the reverse Woakes really, but his record abroad means he has to be a strong contender in Australia.

I only had the 1st session on in the background, but it looked like Curran bowled too straight, but other than that we bowled quite well. Hopefully we get another go after lunch.

Sussex just beat Middlesex by 3 runs. They needed 78 off the last 6 overs, close finish…Well done to Brown and Haines for getting centuries. Finished the competition with 2 wins in the last 3 games. Just lacked a death bowler, other than that really pleased with how the team performed.

Yes I'm happy with how Lancs performed on the whole with such a makeshift side. The three youngsters, all confirmed the promise they showed last year: lovely innings from Lavelle today, ignited the Lancs innings after a slow start; Morley bowled well every game and Balderson looks a potential genuine all-rounder.

Look to have been some great games in this competition this season, despite all the weakened teams.

I've really enjoyed watching this competition,I imagine that all of the young players, for every county, have loved having this opportunity to play first team cricket. They would have learnt a lot more than playing 2nd X1 games.
