Yes I find it strange.

Warwickshire say that they want to "give him the best platform possible to push for a place in the England team across all formats.” Well until he learns to turn some of those attractive 50s and 60s into hundreds he won't play for England. I know he's had an injured finger but maybe he wants to keep wicket more than he's presently doing. Clears a pathway for George Lavelle though - he needs to be playing 1st team cricket somewhere next season.
