Super knock from Livingstone
England win the toss and are going to bat. Stone in for Robinson, but no spinner is a bit of a surprise given the weather is to be pretty warm over the weekend. A tail with Broad at 8 is a very long tail too.
A good start followed by another middle order collapse....

Feel bad for the lad Bracey, but that was just a poor shot. Still not sure why Buttler isn't playing when he's been released to play for Lancs
I don't get the fuss over Pope. He's played 19 games, averages 31 with 1 century. That's bang average. At home he's scored just 2 half centuries in 10 tests at an average of 25. What's more, that's a record that's padded by 4 not outs. Burns has played just 6 more games but has got nearly 700 more runs, despite a fairly poor average of 33.97 himself. You sense with Burns he knows that he's limited and plays within those limits, but Pope things he's something special when he's not.
I remember the dark days of the 90s when we'd have guys like Hick and Crawley regarded as failures but I can't remember a time when our batting was as bad as this. Take Root and Stokes out and it's utter dross. There was a stat on the BBC that the opening partnership (of 72!) today was our biggest at home since 2015 or something bonkers.
The thing is though, Pope, Lawrence and Crawley are all 23 or below. Even Sibley is only 25. They will not be the finished article. I dont fancy Sibley at all, but would probably persevere with the other 3. Lawrence played very nicely today.
There's not really a great deal of alternatives, but Pope is often compared to Bell, yet by the same point in his career Bell had scored 5 hundreds. Poles apart. We haven't had the ability to get big scores consistently for a very long time now and are far more likely to collapse than build a decent score.
