Cricket

Anyone else from this part of the world a bit peed off there's no Test match at Old Trafford this summer?

Eight wins and 2 draws in the !ast 10 Tests in Manchester for England, unbeaten up here since 2001, yet some fool at the ECB decides there's not one at our most successful ground over the last 15 years or so until next year.

Even the players have said they love playing there and the supporter's really get behind the side.

It really gets on my nerves Lords gets two Tests every summer, London gets a guaranteed three over the year in total, yet fans up here sometimes don't get a Test match in the North West.

After 9 months of football, I really look forward to going to Old Trafford and spending a few days at the Test but none this year. I may go to the one dayer against the Aussies a week on Sunday but far prefer Test to one day cricket.

It always feels like a bit of a battle to get the tests in the north, with strauss and boys running things I can only foresee the problem increasing

It will be sad if that happens.

Everytime I see a Lords Test match on tv there seems to be far more people there for the social occasion than there is genuine cricket fans.

I don't think it's any suprise England gets it's most fervent support well away from Lords at places like Edgbaston, Old Trafford and Headingley.

lords is the worst place to watch cricket, a load of fat inbred tories dressed up as fruit salads, not a beer snake in sight

I like billings but maybe give someone else a chance for a while? He was dropped for this game tbf but Morgan's injury put him back in.

Obviously stokes would come back in when fully fit, but I think malan is a much better one day batsman than a test one so should be higher than billings.

England sort of ruining what could have been a massive total. But a wonderful stat in having the first innings in one day history where the first five wickets have registered 50+.

Would have been better off having a five game series v Scotland and a one off v Australia. There's no point in this aussie team coming over here, got battered in their own home, now not even competitive, especially with done of their best players banned because of cheating. England haven't even got their best all rounder playing.

I think the Aussies were keen on coming to give their young players a bit more experience of playing over here ahead of the World Cup next year.

Hmm, so they cheat against us and then expect a favour, should have told them to jog on. England getting batting practice against their bowlers would have better prep than these mis matches.

This series was announced around a year ago, and tickets first went on sale for it in the Autumn long before the ball-tampering scandal so England could hardly have told them to 'jog on'.

More the fact that they probably weren't the highest bidders. TEst cricket venues in England is entirely fuelled by money, which is what caused Durham to have all their financial problems, getting in too much debt to host a test match.

They are so corporate now it's silly. When I first went it wasn't too bad but now you have sections of mound stand seating which is now corporate because they offer you some food at lunch and tea next to the indoor school. It's hardly exclusive seating but they chuck an extra three hundred quid on the ticket price!

Having had a look at future schedules, Manchester does have plenty of Tests over the next five years so can't complain too much.

That said, it will always infuriate me that Lords gets two Test matches every summer.

Ha, I was only being tongue in cheek really, I tried to get tickets for the Cardiff game a year ago but it was a ridiculous price, unsurprisingly they were on an off for train when we haven't seen train down here for two weeks previous.
