40 from 39 with 9 wickets left
I switched off the TV at that point. The Poland Holland game was dull and put me to sleep so I went to bed early.
Gah!! Missed out on that show of ineptitude.
Australia tbf did not play a game since March. And their batting was also light with Agar at 7.
Even then 40 off 39? How do you lose that?

They properly threw the game away. Great stuff lol

Just finished watching the highlights of the bit I missed. I felt the Aussies were almost too casual and arrogant there. An Aussie mate I know was moaning about England's "time wasting" as they searched for the lost ball Steve Smith whacked into the stands. It was this that apparently made Smith and co. impatient enough to finish off the game quickly. Instead they lost their way.

Why can't you just enjoy the win instead of quoting people?
I did enjoy the win. I also enjoyed watching it rath
Couldn't see England winning this after such a good start from the opening pair from oz...

But a few bad shots & a few wickets panic sets in & England win by 2 runs...

Just goes to show never give up...

Winners never quit, & quitters never win...
That’s the beauty of cricket.

Interesting that one of the potential debutantes is Owais Shah, a chinaman bowlet(left arm leggy) If he plays with Parkinson when was the last time, if ever, that Lancashire selected two leg spinners ?

Other news, Ian Bell will retire at the end of the season. He was a fine elegant player.

Shah is only a part-time bowler - I've seen him bat but not bowl. Lavelle is reserve keeper but a good batsman so could just play as the latter. Morley is a left arm spinner. Bailey rested and maybe one of Jennings or Davies. Good that the youngsters are getting a taste of 1st class cricket and don't care if Derby win if it stops Yorkshire from topping the table.
The pitch the other day was like a pudding, very slow so probably play medium pacers and at least two spinners. I'd go Jennings, Shah, Bohannon, Vilas, Jones, Lavelle, Balderson, Lamb, Hartley or Morley, Parkinson and Burrows.

I do think England have chosen to cope with missing Stokes by going a batsman light here something which really puts the onus on most if not every batsman contributing. In the first Bairstow, Morgan, Banton and Ali failed. Ali at 6 when he's so hit and miss, and nowadays sadly most often a miss, with no batsman to follow shows the problem. Jordan and Tom Curran aren't tailenders by any means but bowlers who are useful with the bat.

Ben Stokes' absence is always likely to unbalance a team, there's always a choice but any one player can't adequately replace what he brings to the party. As in the tests, England have chosen to go a batsman light but missing such a talisman doesn't so much leave a hole as a chasm which can't be closed no matter how you try.
