Don’t think there’s much room there. Probably Root or Pope would need dropped.

They did it before, but i wouldn't like, who do you drop? Crawley or pope. Both are the future imo and it'd be very short sighted to do that for a year or so. Just wrecks the whole balance of the team to drop a batsman for two keepers who are arguably no better.

Foakes is an appreciably better keeper than Buttler imo, but yes, once Stokes returns there’s not much room. Burns place under threat I would say as Crawley could open. Didn’t he open in SA last winter?

I’ve been critical of Buttler this summer, but fair play, he’s knuckled down and is back in the runs, but his keeping remains below par if England wants to become the no.1 ranked team. Would it be a crazy thing to pick him just as a batsman and bring Foakes in, who is a far better keeper as well as a decent batsman?

I think Buttler has the talent to play as a specialist batsman but not sure Jos has the same belief, at least in the past. Perhaps the excellence of these last two innings will give him the self-belief or, less likely, inspire him to find a higher standard of wicketkeeping.

Meanwhile, at the Oval Sam Curran and young Adam Finch bowling beautifully.
