Cricket

Good day for England, comfortably England's day.

They really should have been skittled on that wicket but South Africa bowled extremely poorly in the middle (first session) and England took full advantage. They bowled far better in the evening session taking four wickets and Stokes' dismissal and stupid reaction was very disappointing.

To end in the box seat on such a pitch is very satisfactory, any total around 300 would be massive on here, a lot depends on this partnership continuing along and making it an impregnable one.

Real disappointment for Stokes who'll probably get 2 demerit points, he's on none so should be ok.

Stokes offering someone out in the crowd I hear?

Yeah, the fan abusing Stokes apparently ran down right from the top of the stand just so he could barrack and swear at Stokes, singling him out for being ginger.

Apparently the South African players were appalled by the behaviour of their own supporter. South Africa fast bowler Beuran Hendricks called on supporters to behave but admitted players cannot become involved in swapping abuse.

Stokes reacted shouting to the abusive South African supporter ‘come and say that to me outside the ground you f------ four eyed c---”.

Stokes has admitted to being more emotional on this tour due to worrying about his father Gerald, who is still in hospital in Johannesburg after being taken seriously ill before Christmas.

Stokes was also angry at himself for his poor shot but by the end of play he had calmed down and went to sign autographs and pose for selfies with fans by the tunnel.

It's dependant on how serious match referee Andy Pycroft views the incident but it's thought likely that Stokes will be charged with a level one offence of using an audible obscenity. He would then be fined a percentage of his match fee as well as given one demerit point.

(Stokes has a clean disciplinary record with previous offences being wiped after two years.)

Aye saw the clip of it. Hard to know what was said towards him first but he should try and ignore it. Hes Ben Stokes. One of the greatest cricketers of a generation. The abuse shows oppositions fear him. Easier said than done mind to ignore stuff.

Hoping theres no rain so I can watch some cricket over the weekend.

Exactly, it is however widely reported by most media outlets exactly what the abusive fan hurled at him.

He'll have to ignore such foul mouthed yobbos in the future. Just how much the highly personal, frightening and emotional episode, with his dad's critical illness has left him particularly vulnerable isn't so easily judged.

Stokes made to apologise as England cricket's managing director Ashley Giles reveals..

“It is disappointing that a member of the public has gone out of their way to abuse Ben as he was leaving the field. Ben is fully aware that he should not have reacted in the way that he did and apologises for his actions.

“In addition to this incident, members of our support staff were subjected to personal abuse during and after the day’s play. We have requested to the venue to ensure that security and stewarding are enhanced for the remainder of the match so that players’ and staff members can go about their duties without provocation.”

big fan of stokes offering to one bomb some horrible arrogant saffa

Why on earth do you go to a ground just to run down a fair distance and hurl foul mouthed abuse at a dismissed batsman?

(not to put him off his stride when he's batting which happens with crowds)

Stokes knows he can't afford to react as no doubt the Aussies will give him hell, but that's expected to an extent, this was a largely empty stadium

Surely we should start punishing spectators of sport than spout abuse at sports players. After all it's still one human verbally abusing another who have emotions and feelings.
