Cricket

Pathetic behaviour that. Against the spirit of the game and not even legal. He went well beyond the crease before pulling out of his bowling action. The umpire is well out of order to even entertain that appeal.

In my opinion any bowler who tries that should be banned. I see it at club cricket all the time. Almost always from the worst bowlers.

My knowledge of cricket laws is sketchy, but I always thought if a bowler pulls out of bowling then its a dead ball.

That's what it should have been in my opinion.

I'm not an umpire. But my understanding is it can only be a genuine run out in those circumstances if the batsman is clearly trying to steal a run, which he blatantly isn't. And secondly if the bowler pulls out before entering his delivery stride. I also know the umpire always warns the batsman the first time too in any club cricket I've experienced.

I'm not sure what was worse. The pathetic attempt by the bowler or the umpires decision to uphold the appeal.

If a batsman is taking the piss by going really early, then I used to just stop as I was about to bowl and with him out of his grounds I just had a word. Waved the ball towards the stumps without removing the bails.
That was always enough to knock it on the head.

Running out a batsman who was using a runner due to him just being tired however was always fair game if the runner was getting a flier and he didn't know the rules.
