It is, and several of the dismissals were ludicrous (the runout especially) but that is the benefit of England having a world class bowling attack. Surely now the debate over Rashid has to be settled; he is that good.

I've always been a fan. I mean I know he doesn't give much control and bowls howlers, but he's always been a wicket taker and always scored runs too.

I'm a big fan of his, has been badly mismanaged at test level and cook in particular was a dreadful captain for new bowlers. As we've bowled with three spinners here is twas important that he took that 5 for and put himself right in the picture

He's good enough that's for sure but in games where we only need one spinner I would still choose Ali as he is the slightly better all round cricketer. It's a nice problem to have though!!!

I've always been able to pick a 1st choice 11 for England quite easily. These days it's almost pick any 11 from 15 depending on conditions. However I'm not convinced on our openers. I think if I would give the current 2 a little longer but they need to get at least 2 hundreds and 2 fifties every 10 innings to be considered good enough.

Indeed, and the rewards that have come Englands way solely for showing a bit of faith in him since the start of the India series have been obvious - since he came back its been 22 wickets at just over 26.

important wickets as well, he has big moments in games. I don't think any of it would have happened without the superb captaincy of Eoin Morgan who really backed the lad.

As an aside,
Rashid's 5-49 are the best figures by an England spinner in the first innings away from home since Nick Cook took 6-55 against Pakistan in Karachi in 1984.

thank god for Morgan then, if he hadn't then we would have missed that look on Kohli's face in the ODI and the noise that the Oval crowd made when they watched the ball of the century on replay:

Adil Rashid and Ben Stokes obviously read my comments at tea time, i'm glad they served a purpose and added that extra motivation, job done.

Keep reading the GOT Forum Cricket thread Rooty and you won't go far wrong lol

What a dream session for England eight wickets and suddenly that lead looks big. Whereas Root's catching was poor earlier, they were absolutely superlative around the bat this session. Jennings in particular. I must admit at tea i completely forgot that when Sri Lanka do collapses they do them properly, no half measures.

67-9

That was as well as Adil Rashid has ever bowled in the test side. His control of length was immaculate and so much better, he's looked dangerous almost every ball. Adil Rashid with a well deserved five for - and Ben Stokes with three wickets to add to his 56 runs changed the innings and rescued a match that had been threatening to get away from them.

Can England keep Adil Rashid in the test side or is he a luxury that in seamer friendly conditions can't be afforded?

Perhaps England have an extraordinary chance to keep him up their sleeve for when they need his input, thanks to the batting depth and all round options that litter their middle order, himself included. Other sides wouldn't be able to justify a luxury bowler in a four or five man attack. But England can.

Those catches by Jennings at short leg were absolutely top draw, especially the one handed grab to dismiss Roshen, truly exceptional and game changers on there own, without such brilliant close in fielding Adil may not have gained such confidence, it's very hard to overestimate just how important Jennings' contribution was
