Cricket

A little more info.

'Telegraph Sport revealed that Saracens rugby players were also present, with the event being their end-of-season party. Saracens confirmed they were “aware of an incident involving an academy player.”

Tricky one isn't it, the team have written the curfew rule for themselves and as such any punishment should be dealt with internally, it will br a test of Mccullums leadership, is he one of the boys or is he prepared to fine his skipper or stand him down for a match? Unlikely knowing McCullum. People really are clambering onto this like they used sandpaper or dirt on the ball, or match fixed though, its a bit over the top but that's how the English press is.

You could say that such a failure of judgement only puts blood in the water for the sharks for the rest of the summer. More pressure, more breaches of privacy, more harassment, and eventually something gives and it's another 'gotcha!'.
Sometimes common sense says, have a bbq at home, invite the squad and family, and make a day of it. No one has an issue blowing off a bit of steam, but persistent flouting the behaviours is cocking two fingers to the fans they've let down and the filth in the ranks of the press.

Oh don't get me wrong, its poor judgement and once again gives people something to talk about, I guess I'm not one of them outraged by it, perhaps a tad disappointed at most. You see it in other sports, rugby for example, i think an All Black last year or year before on Euroean tour, player breaks protocol out too late, at weekly press conference coach says we standing him down this week, we still love him, hes apologized to the team etc, and it's done. Everyone moves on.

Yes the lackadaisical attitude from the top only escalates the perception of no respect and not listening which drip drips into criticism in performances. We all laughed years back when an aussie skanger threw a punch at a squad player in a walkabout pub when both sides were out on a bender, I can see the hijinx and hypocrisy. Maybe they just like courting controversy, headlines again means more tickets sold.
Cricket has a staid image, grey old duffers, pipe and slippers, taking themselves very seriously, 'the rules of the club old boy don't you know, toodle pip'.

If a pair of them could defend a wicket for half a day and show that test discipline it'd curtail a lot of negative focus.

Playstation, tiktok, smart phone, bumhead generation. "used to get the cane in school us!"

I don't think it's that deep Rita to be honest. People just like a night out. The coach however has always had a case of FIGJAM, perhaps it filters down.

After the winter review, by the people responsible ( Rob Key), for an absolutely disastrous tour on many levels, drinking, golf and very poor cricket, it was decided the best way forward was for no real change or consequences.
A few grudging sorries.
One test later skipper out on the lash having fisticuffs.

I guess he could be in trouble as he didn’t play golf first.

It is like people having no consequences for their actions previously are acting like people knowing their will be no consequences for their actions in the future.

The sooner this whole Bazball nonsense is over the better.

I think the specific circumstances of the alleged affray are needed to cast judgement on Stokes position. Obviously he has previous, albeit mitigated by alleged homophobic abuse.

If he's been minding his own business having a slightly later than midnight bevvie with Atkinson, and some ruggers idiot has come over and started on him then I don't think he should stand down. I challenge anyone to instinctively consider "optics" before defending yourself with force if someone starts throwing punches at you in a bar. A fine, internal sanction - whatever.

However if it transpires he has been an aggressor in this incident then it's a big big decision for the ECB to make, that may well cast the net wider still than Stokes.

It seems the age old adage 'Doesn't go looking for trouble, but trouble finds him' holds true when it comes to Ben Stokes.

He's broke curfew in the very next test after the winter. A curfew he was involved in bringing in.

I don't care about the fight. Thats not the point. He has to be removed or step down now.
