Cricket

Plenty football managers have been fired in less time! Team still playing and losing in the same way they have done for years.
So therefore the problems pre existed and will take time to address, citing other poor examples of not addressing issues with a long term approach doesn't help the case for me.

The new management team needs a bit of time and now has the perfect excuse for a reset, worth remembering our greatest captain Eoin Morgan had a disastrous first tournament. McCullum has pedigree as a player and coach and now needs to be given the space to work, I realise there is an upper class section of English cricket desperate for him to fail but they would be better served getting behind him.

Maybe. But Moyes has had an almost instant impact, little signs from his first game and then more from the 2nd game on. The team are playing like nothing has changed - mentality and not giving away your wicket dancing down the track first ball are surely the sort of things he could easily have an effect on?

Well bring Moyes in then.

No one got out first ball in the whole tournament.

Sacking a new manager and a proven one at that after a couple of months is silly.

I think the team selections since Mccullum took over have been baffling

The balance of the team looks awful. They seem to be picking a team for early season English conditions. I dont think Wood and Archer together in the same side works. I dont think 1 spinner away from home works. And I dont think Salt is good enough to open the batting.

Also, why has Root been left out of lots of limited overs teams. He's the best player in all formats by a distance.

Sorry, first ball from that bowler I should have put.

We just got knocked out of the ICC by Afghanistan. Changes need to happen immediately, and if he's not going to get the team to stop playng like kids in the playground then heads must role. Only thing silly is persisting with someone who is going to get the same results and performances we have of late.

Because root can't play every game, and I doubt he wants to, he needs a bit of protection.

Agree completely on the balance and Salt, all needs addressing but making titty lip decisions and firing head coaches after a few weeks is backward thinking

It's 2 months, changes will happen, the fellas coming in from 2 months will be reviewing the situation as much as anything else.

I'm not saying change the coach but I do think they need a new captain

And yes Root wont play every game but wasn't he left out of the t20 world Cup? That's like Australia leaving out Smith. It would never happen.

I'd personally have root in t20 (in sub continent especially) aswell, he started getting left out under Morgan and they did win a world cup without him, seems to have been a policy for some time.

Agree entirely on the captain again, for Buttlers own sake as much as anything else. Not sure who you turn to, it's a lot to ask of Brook, maybe Rashid for a few years. There is new management in, a captain seems inevitable so it will be a reset which is what's needed after a really poor few years

He's been there for 2 months
I know, and I'm very unimpressed with what unfolded over the past couple of weeks, I know he's not new to England at all, but for his first series as the coach in India, he had players not practising in the nets, players playing golf a day before a match, players writing off the importance of those games. It just seems like the standards were so low, and it clearly impacted their performance in the trophy too which was poor. I want the manager to bring high standards back, we've been lucky to see some fantastic one day / t20 teams and win a few world cups and I'd love to see more of that.

I'm not sure luck had too much to do with it, Eoin Morgan and later on Trevor Bayliss inherited a mess and over a long period of time installed a method and belief in that method that led to that success.

Granted that generation had peak stokes, Woakes who could bat at 7 and a few others, but it certainly still didn't happen overnight.
