Coventry City

I went to Highfield Road to see us play you lot in the late eighties or early nineties. Can't remember the score. Only things I can remember is big Cyrille Regis hammering a header off the crossbar, & that horrible little David Speedie getting abuse off a few of our fans "WAIT TILL YOU GET TO GOODISON! YOU F****** WAN***!"😂
Also seem to remember loads of stops for traffic lights on the way home.

I’ve been there quite a few times but the game that sticks in the mind is the first game of the season when Whiteside made his debut for us.

Norman and Speedie kicked lumps out of each other all game in an otherwise forgettable game.

I think Mike Newell made his debut as well.

My first two away games were Highfield Road at Coventry. Both of them ended 0-0 I think.

The first one was (I think) the last game of the season before the FA cup final v Utd in the 90’s.

My first and only trip to Highfield Road was sometime in the 1970s. Not sure of the result, but I remember it was a freezing cold day, and I think Bruce Rioch made his debut for us. May also have been Duncan McKenzie as well. My memory sometimes plays tricks on me nowadays 😂

FWIW
Been to Highfield Road twice...1980s ,a night game and a Saturday v us.
Been to richo or whatever its called for Cov v Millwall ,I was doing a course near Brum at the time.
Seen those famous fans with the long scarfs.

Few current links between the clubs....Lampard and Simms etc.

But the biggest link for me is that Mrs Covkid1968, the wife, is an Evertonian - so I have been looking forward to us coming up (preferable to you coming down) for many many years.

We get up one or two games a season to see the Toffees.....but next time I will be coming up with my home town club.

We had Man City tickets for this weekend and the game got moved so we can't come up now. So I still haven't seen that fantastic stadium inside. Although we do have a brick as the company that supplied the bricks is local to us in the Midlands and gave the wife one. (all numbered so a very prized possession in our house)

Anyways - looking forward to coming up and having a beer with you. Of course the wife will be in the home end and I'll be in the away end.

So be gentle with us - Little old Cov would like to get more points than the all time record low that belongs to Derby!!

PUSB - UTFT
Just beat the rs twice and you're half way to beating Derby's record.

Seriously, congrats. Good to have you back. Hopefully you can follow in Sunderland's footsteps and adapt well.

Oh yeah, Another link. The last time we won the league was when you won the FA cup.
