Couch to 5K

Got myself a fair bit out of shape the last few years.

Had to unexpectedly run a few months back and resembled Homer here;

.... so figured better get a grip of my cardio.

Would recommend the NHS's couch to 5k app. It's a structured way to ease back into running;

I can now run for ages.

Well, good few minutes.

The only way I am going from couch to 5K is by fitting a motor to my couch.
🤔 Ponders?

Yeah, my partner swears by it (and she's moved on to doing city runs since she started).

She's away next week, so I'm going to secretly do the first week of C25K and see if my dodgy knee still holds up to running on it...

(I do the gym three or four times a week, ski and walk but have avoided running on it for quite a few years now.)

Steve Cram is the one.

Though he's annoyingly supportive - I'd prefer to have a trainer shout obscenities at me. "Tired after 2 mins? you fat [beeeeeep] get on moving" would be loads better for me.

I think I've got Laura. We can't download all the options outside the UK so I had to get the mp3s from a running health site.

have a look at David Goggins on youtube, this should satisfy your salacious appetite for abuse!! When exercising!

For anyone like me whose knees don't particularly agree with running, I switched the Couch 2 5K podcast to a stationary bike three days a week and so far it's working quite well. (Obviously doing more than 5k on the bike, but just doing two different levels for the walking/jogging sections.)

Bumping this as recently returned to it.

Would really recommend to anyone looking to build some cardio/fitness

I've been doing this since November. I do it 3 times a week. Cardio wise its definitely increased my fitness though I'm still a fat blob.

People said it gets easier but I find every single run a real battle. Today, I've done about 90 minutes worth of walking (i normally walk about 2hrs a day, every day), calf muscles sore, ankles sore, hip joints sore (theyre all worse after a run). But I'll crack on and do another 5k tomorrow

I genuinely hate it, apart from the end when its done. Ive managed to do 6k once and nearly keeled over. Would like to be able to get to do a 10k run but no chance is my body going to condition itself to get to that.

Fair play to anyone who enjoys it, I go past loads of people on my jogging and i swear I'm the one who always looks like they're struggling the most.
