Current Affairs Cost of living…

That sounds a bit better, thank you.

It's most definitely getting a bit milder out so hopefully will have it on a bit less.
Set the radiators in your living room above that of your bedrooms - they say it should be close to 21°C in living rooms and 18°C in a bedroom.

It's not going to save you massive amounts of money, but overtime it could add up. We put ours on for an hour in the morning, and two in the evening.

The only issue with that is you can unbalance the radiators which could result in one or a few not working.

That happened to us, luckily my gf's dad fixed it for us

Aye, it's a more common issue than people think, and bleeding won't help. If you've got a spanner, it's easy enough to do with adjusting the lock shield.

If you've got a half-decent heating cover, not just the boiler, they'll often do it for you too. We have the radiators in the hall and landing below the rest as it's wasted.

Drayton by Schneider Electric Multi-Zone Smart Thermostat and 2 Smart Radiator Thermostat Kit - Combination Boilers Only - Heating Control https://amzn.eu/d/g7aV9Dm

I installed this system a couple of years back... Managed to get it pretty cheap in a black Friday deal. If you can find the wiring diagram for your existing controller it's pretty simple swapping the connections out.

Reduced our gas bill by about a third... Which means it's paid for itself many times by now.

I've added extra thermostats on for different rooms.

Works for us as our house doesn't retain heat well and my wife works from home. We are only heating one room during the day and can warm up different places at different times of the day. Just the bedrooms for an hour in the morning etc.

The only annoying thing about it is the thermostats on the radiators are on batteries so they'll need changing every so often, but never at the same time.

Well worth the investment for us

I have a smart meter - and live in a poorly insulated Victorian terrace. It seems to cost me about a quid an hour to have the heating on

We`re in the same boat mate, with our house mate.

We`re running on just under £15 quid a day for both the gas and leccy and that`s with the central heating on for only six hours a day.

We`ve had to move our youngest into our room, until it warms up, as his room is just too cold to sleep in at the mo.

I think we've got to ride out this cold patch and recognise this sharp increase should, to some extent, be balanced out by the milder months.

October and November were mild, and we can only hope it warms up sooner rather than later, too. Until now, our energy bills weren't as bad as we had expected.

I think this month it's going to really surge up, although the central heating has been on for a maximum of four hours a day; mostly, it's been on for two or three.

It ain't going to be cheap in the end, yet let's not take this month's bill as what it'll be like for the other twelve.

Also give the wife a hard stare when she goes to put the gas fire on....

It never works but at least the thought is there...

What also helps: set the inlet temperature of your condensing boiler a bit lower. If you have old school large radiators or convectors you shouldnt feel it if you reduce the water temperature to 54-55°C. If it's too cold in the house, add a degree until it's comfortable. Most boilers are still running the factory setting of 65-70 °C.
If you have Buderus, Viesmann, Bulex, Vaillant than you can simply do it on the computer unit of the boiler.

Also be sure they waterpressure is at least 1.5 bar. Add water and of course, vent the radiators

I've checked mine after reading this (we have a pretty new Worcester Bosch), and the radiator temperature was set to 80°C, so I've knocked it down a fair bit.
