Current Affairs Cost of living…

No, please go and have a read about the windrush generation. The housing problem is a political football that has been used to point score and make monies for vested interests for decades. There's plenty of room for housing, and there's the means to do it. The theory goes there's 1.6 million employment vacancies in the uk, that a labour shortage has been allowed to manifest has put up prices as workers can pick and choose the best there is on offer.
The last time infrastructure was built with an eye on the capabilities for the future was the victorians. britain has sleep walked into the malaise it finds itself in now through stupidity and tacit greed.
Not Victorian England, post war 1950s labour govt tried to plan for the future.

How will Gen Z afford to live? Will we see the return of Victorian workhouses?

It's completely untrue to assume the pandemic has caused all of this, as it's an easy excuse. A lot of these studies were published in 2018 or 2019 when this tragic trend was already well on its way, and before anyone knew about Covid 19

According to this article "Suicide rates for Gen Z men have risen 45% since 2007, compared to 87% for women". It's hard to comprehend to an extent, but also not difficult at all considering what the world is becoming.

Axios - Generation Z's suicide epidemic

Young people have no hope whatsoever. I fear we're on the brink of a crisis on a scale we've not experienced before, and absolutely nothing is being done to tackle it. The far right's war on woke and using terms such as snowflake as much as humanly possible has encouraged society to sneer and/or turn a blind eye to the problems that will entirely cripple society. Eventually the masses will wake up and realise they voted for this, just like with Brexit and the last Tory election, but it's already too late.

Society is completely broken.

Labour will be in at some point over the next 12 months. Is there not an expectation they'll work to change this sort of thing?

And I'm not saying you, more a general thing, what will be the narrative when these problems still exist after a few years of a Labour government?

This is sort of what I'm getting at. The fact that 29% of children in this country are living in poverty has become a political issue, with everyone pointing fingers in the other direction, asking what will the next ones do to fix it. As if they're waiting for Labour to fail so they can say I told you so. Not a chance Labour can fix this problem in one term, probably not even two.

I might be way off here, but it seems to suggest this mess we are in is accidental and the Tories did everything in their power to avoid. As a society we've just accepted that children die from starvation or suicide, and that governments will steal billions of pounds from the people they have been elected to server. As if it's 'just one of them'.

It will take a 3 term gargantuan effort to even begin to address what this Tory party have inflicted on the country.

The answer to this (or climate change) does not sit within democracy. But human nature means that any absolute power to take away from some to give to others will be abused

I disagree. The previous Labour government did a lot more to help disadvantaged people. They implemented measures that have been gradually reduced by the Tories, whilst pushing a narrative that these people are to blame for bleeding the country dry.

That’s not to say that the left side of the political spectrum haven’t caused issues, but this government has deliberately created a toxic society which is incredibly unfair.

but can Labour stay in power long enough to make it happen? That's what I mean about democracy, if you have to rip everything up or make mental promises you don't really agree with every 4 or 8 years I don't see how it helps.

I fear not, but you have to have hope I suppose.

The current political system doesn't encourage long term plans. It's all about attention seeking slogans, campaigns, dividing and conquering etc. Someone made a comment on here recently stating they believed immigration issues should be beyond the control of a government which can change hands every 5 years. By implementing a plan which focuses on long term you risk appearing to be not doing enough in the present.

It is reported that in the UK the median house price has increased once more after a relapse.
Some people seem to be rejoicing , can't think why.
