Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Myself, 2 sons (11 & 14), dad, and uncle, all done the Brighton game on Saturday. All just tested positive via PCR.

Highly likely we caught it there (Park & Ride or stadium) as other than that day we haven’t seen my dad and uncle for a while. Either that or one of us had it prior to the game and it was spread between us 5 in the car journey down. Though we had done LFs prior and all negative.

Adults are all double-jabbed. Fortunately none of us are experiencing bad symptoms, just a few cold-like symptoms (runny nose, bit of a cough etc).

Whilst not ideal, I was fully expecting to catch it at SOME point, and I’d rather have it now post-vaccination, than before. It’s all part and parcel of restrictions being lifted as far as I’m concerned.

Says who ? The Tories ?

I find it amazing that people are willing to accept the deaths of hundreds of people every day rather than even consider any alternative, because it might be more difficult.
We do that every day anyway, life has risks, we learn to live with these risks.. just about 600,000 die each year from flu we now have conclusive proof that lockdowns, masks, social distancing and other measures stop flu, going forward do we now lock down every year from early November to early March to avoid these deaths? I can't imigine too many being pro those measures even though we are talking over half a million deaths during the winter months.
Life has risks, every time you cross a road, get in a car, walk down a stairs heck even eating your dinner could cause you to choke. Learning to live with this thing is the way forward and yes people will die, but you can't stop living for fear of death.

Use of the label 'horse dewormer' is carefully chose by the media to try and belittle the success of alternatives to vaccination, such as ivermectin, where symptoms are treated early. For a proper look at the evidence take a look at, for instance, Dr. Peter McCullough's discussion with the Texan Health Committee.
No. It’s being used to belittle imbeciles who rather than allowing a doctor to administer ivermectin under proper professional care, are instead running down to the local livestock supply store, buying a tube of apple flavored horse de-wormer and then going home and ingesting it.

It absolutely shouldn’t be - to accept 130 preventable deaths a day as just one of those things is to take us back to the days of government incompetence / inaction that blighted the lives of our grandparents, great-grandparents and beyond.
The deaths are not preventable as a high percentage are people with underlying health conditions.
If every single person was vaccinated we would sill have high cases hospitalizations and deaths.

We need to get out of the mindset of thinking this is going to go away, it isn't no matter what we do and 18 months of hell proves that.

Well, we don’t have 600000 flu deaths a year (it’s more like 8-16000) but you do raise a sort of point in that there are clearly things we can do to reduce the number we do suffer.

What's the goal? To raise life expectancy to about 100?

People live long lives in the UK and in most of the developed world now. You can't stop deaths.

How many flu deaths are there in August in the UK ?

When you look at those numbers and compare to the current Covid deaths I hope you’ll realise how daft it is to compare Flu to Covid as if we can live with them in the same way.

They absolutely are preventable - I mean the fact loads have other countries have prevented themselves having such a large number of deaths kind of proves that.

Also and if every single person was vaccinated we would probably have much lower case rates, hospitalisations and deaths.

Finally why is it that so many people have fallen into this “it isn’t going away therefore let’s not let it go away” mantra. If you want to go back to normality, you should advocate dealing with this disease properly - not let it run through the populace repeatedly.

Fine, so let’s totally dismantle the health service and get rid of all medical science because death is inevitable.

You’ve got Legs and Rafuh posting information from the US showing various states on their knees with COVID, but any suggestion in this thread that we may not be wise to canter into the autumn with no restrictions is met with incredulity.

I think he was talking globally, but it’s more like 250000-500000 per year.

Meanwhile Covid has killed over 4 million in 20 months. Despite lockdowns across the world.

US is an absolute mess due to anti vaxxers.

I believe in mandating vaccination. I have no issues with masks on trains and supermarkets but I don't think zero covid is realistic.

Because people want a life with what time they have left, the past 18 months isn't living its merely being alive.
Last weekend a lad I knew for over 30 years dropped dead (Heart attack) at my age 45, there are no guarantees for any of us. There are hundreds of ways of dying and Covid is just one more.
