Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Worth a read.

Not saying I agree with it all because given where we are in the spread of the virus we had little choice but to do what we have done now, but there's some good points raised.

This is particularly interesting I thought, especially in relation to how the deaths are being counted:

I think it works more when thinking forward. There 100% will be a second wave of this but - and we'll obviously have to do the legwork in terms of lockdown over the next month or two to try and ensure this - the world cannot stop again when it does come. Life will have to carry on. It's far more than just being 'complicated' for people. Many are losing jobs and livelihoods with little hope of getting them back any time soon apart from relying on a handout from the government.

I suspect that fella got his degree from the internet.

What stands out in all this is how stupid "intelligent" people really are.

Hes a moron and he needs to shut up.

Quite a few pieces raising the issue of infection rates with air pollution (some other social factors there obviously), but would be very interested to see how the data correlates.

I disagree, both with that bit of your post and the article itself. The problem is not, and has never been IMHO, that COVID19 is by itself that deadly.

The problem is that it puts those people who do have conditions (that are otherwise relatively manageable) into intensive care beds, essentially all at the same time. If we are going to "take it on the chin" then governments are going to have to either massively increase critical care capacity in healthcare systems or just tell people they aren't going to be treated if they get it.

Obviously the former is the one they should go for.

Indeed, and it would also be really useful to actually have widely publicised findings about air quality during this. I can taste the difference already, but this lower level of pollution is what should be the norm now.

Its just the smog has now replaced its just the flu.
respiratory illnesses are already know to be more prevalent in areas of poor air quality. At the end of the day even the experts are learning on the job on this one so correlating all data in terms of why some areas fared so much worse than others cold be crucial come next winter. Needs a real international effort

I’m not doing much at the moment I’ll happily track him down and I don’t even want expenses , all I’d want is the opportunity to have him stuffed and mounted head at the end of the event. As a libertarian supporter of such Nobel hunting pursuits I’m sure he’d be happy enough .
