Our death rate is the important thing here really. It's gonna get worse, much worse, but if we can stay below the track of Italy and Spain then the NHS/top medical bods will take it as a positive.

The main issue isn't just going to be ICU numbers I don't think. It's going to be the staff who need to work them. If loads are having to go into isolation because they show symptoms - which a lot probably will given they're working with patients. (some without proper PPE) then that's when we'll see the numbers driven up.

Relatively speaking, so far the NHS is coping, it seems. The deaths are still lowish considering we're what, 23 days in?

I was responding to restrictions and the government suddenly changed tack in their approach. ICUs have in recent years been run near capacity in winter months, they saw what was happening in Italy compared ability and gulped.

Its something that has been constantly warned, the NHS would not be able to cope with regards to flu epidemic, and here we are desperate to get past another flu season...

Hope we do manage to get well into April were other pressure begin to ease on ICUs, if not this will burn into memory of those who will loose loved ones and Johnson may finally get be Churchill, just the 1945 version...

Not an exhaustive lost

Over 70's and high risk to stay home for 2 weeks
We're not supposed to go more than 2k from our homes
Pretty much all business to close for 2 weeks
No social gatherings at all
Can't remember the rest
Public transport scaled back and only for those in essential services
special circumstances include
leaving the house for work only when the work is essential work, social care or other essential services that cannot be done at home

They must have seen something alarming in our curve or got spooked by the happenings in Italy. Not good.

Me and the missus ruing the decision not to order what could be our last Dominos for weeks tonight

They havent seen anything mate, its about flattening the curve, to be honest I say we should have locked down earlier, but I honestly dont have the answers, in order for "us" to win, we probably need a 6month lockdown and we then need 100% of the population to observe the rules.

This thing only goes away with a vaccine or total herd immunity or we have to pray it mutates into a cold.

I was buoyed a little with the figures in Italy reducing, I thought social distancing would work and it will have helped, but this thing is just destroying the world and we are weeks, maybe months away from even a hint of normality, possibly years away.

This is kicking humanity's arse.

Unfortunately this is the case.

Our schools and universities closed earlier than britain's
We stopped non essential services and shops earlier
Our death rate per capita is less than Britain's because we acted earlier, but yes still too late

Imagine having an Island and not using it to protect yourself.

If we are at war, then 95% of the leaders of the world need charging with war crimes.

All non essential (healthcare staff) now have to stay at home.
No one allowed beyond 2 KLM from your own house.
Grocery shopping and essential caring allowed.
Over 70s cocooned.
Two meters distance from others while out exercising including your own family.
More guards in the state then ever before on the streets policing this, check points etc.

Idea is to reduce community transmission, drive the virus back into people’s home where it can be tested and isolated.
