I am not a Londoner. But from everything I see and the huge population of the city, I think we need entirely different policies in London.

I feel for all those reliant on the tube and public transport to work. It just isn't safe or fair for them.

This seems to be how the government approaches things. Announce something with no detail or ambiguity, Get people to look at it and then ask questions of the government and then they make their answer up on the hoof. E.g Gove about separate parents and how child should spend their time. He said they shouldn't go to the other parent, then changes his mind. They don't think things through. And he's supposed to be the 'brains' of the outfit. This government isn't fit for purpose and needs to go.

Mate, my daughter lives in London and her partner is being forced into work - non essential job repairing things in churches, which is closed anyway, and they have a 1 year old. He's using the tube and public transport so non existent social distancing with the potential to get infected. That's why the government has to act to stop some employers forcing workers to go to work. There's been no word from the company about not going in today, he took it upon himself not to go in. But there'll be others that will go to work when they don't need to.

A travesty mate, you have my sympathies.

Interestingly, since I posted, I’ve noticed Piers Morgan’s GMB has highlighted the issue of construction workers still going into work, paralleling the piece with live shots of construction workers working on the new Heathrow terminus.
Somebody must have given the bosses there a heads-up as, minutes later when they returned to shots of the site, the place was deserted.

My belief is that Johnson will be under pressure to address the issue of non-essential working, and his next bulletin won’t be as ambiguous.

I understand the frustration, mistakes have been made. There will be a long and lengthy examination. It's not the time now though.

It looks very likely loved one's won't make it through this. I hope that's not the case. We're at a stage though that difficult decisions have to be made. The ball is literally in our court, wherever your position across the pond.

Stay at home. Don't risk others. If you're not in an essential industry. Stay at home. If you are in construction. Stay at home.

Unless you work in essential services. Stay at home.

Essential services in no particular order, are medical staff, law enforcement, folks who work in the food industry, pharmacists/chemists etc. It should be obvious by now.

Cutting peoples lawns or cleaning their windows is not an essential service. Neither is selling sports gear, computer games or the myriad of reasons that greedy people come up with. Including construction. Just go home.

Literally just go home, at this stage staying home is going to save lives. This isn't a panic. Faced with this threat, governments can only do so much. Personal responsibility lies with all of us. Man up/Woman up, I don't care how you phrase it. Take a couple of weeks off, get drunk. I don't care, just stay home.

London Underground today. The majority of non essential travellers are builders.

Nothing has changed.

i see khan being criticised there in the tweet , or rather implored to put the tube back to normal . I heard him this morning talking about 20% staff absence due to sickness and self isolation which he expected to rise. So at least a fair proportion is out of his hands

I totally see your argument and don’t disagree with the sentiment but if your boss tells you to come in and you have bills to pay it’s often not as easy as Just staying at home
