Just great.

My lads and their Mum, (my ex, obvs), are in Padstow for a week starting today, so have a concern when I see them next weekend. Sake, thats a ridiculous state of affairs. But have a zero tolerance to this getting inside our house.
Don't worry mate. Padstow has probably lower infection rate than where you are. Only had 3 cases in the last week. I was there myself earlier this week for a couple of days. Me and the missus were both 60 during lockdown and my sister bought us a voucher for Rick Stein's.

As I said, it's mainly the youngsters that's driving this in Cornwall. That and the half term and G7 weeks. So the surfing resorts, St Ives and Falmouth/Penryn where the University is, are driving the counties figures up. Lot's of places are still hardly affected.

Last time me and me mates visited Padstow, one of them caught sommet naughty from a willing local lass!

Israel brings the indoor masking back :( jeez this nightmare will never end will it.

Vaccination rate was like %100 there

Imagine the other countries' politicians now...if/when they reach %100 vaccine rate in their respective country, they would like to scrap the masking rule indoor and outdoor (it will be up to individuals) and worrier mass will be screaming 'Look at Israel' These news do matter.

Terrible ruling from Israel, makes me try to accept the fact that masks will never go away.

This will never end. Thats why the narrative has been 'new normal' etc. I'm pretty convinced that there will be a lengthy winter lockdown in the UK too. Possibly due to a 'new variant'.

I hope this sad news means that the scales should, finally, fall from some peoples' eyes that this is not something that we should or even can "just learn to live with".

Vigilance and (where necessary) suppression of this virus are the only things that are going to work if going back to normal is something we want. We also get a massive benefit that when the next thing comes along, we'll be vastly better prepared to deal with it than we are now and tens of thousands of lives will probably be saved by it.

This doesn't mean lockdowns, restrictions or even making everyone wear a mask (though again, wearing masks in crowded public areas like trains and tubes is probably sensible), it means having a system that we can use to prevent those things being required.

FWIW without a system in place to prevent spread of variants that pose a danger, there are still no other means to prevent serious loss of life than lockdown.

A third national lockdown should really see the end of this government.

All well and good but theres absolutely no way this can be stopped. Nowhere in the world with a decent number of cases has managed to surpress COVID. This isn't the original strain which only a few countries managed to stop, this is a strain thats over 100% more transmissible than the original. Australia will fail with their lockdown attempts now. There is no way this can be stopped

Nowhere in the world that has a decent number of cases has managed to suppress COVID is like saying nowhere with flood waters three feet deep has managed to stop flooding though. "Decent" numbers of cases happen because there aren't proper defences in place to prevent numbers getting that high.

It probably isn't ever going to go away, but we can certainly get something that will pick up cases quickly, get the people involved to isolate and trace who might have been put at risk. Most of the time, that is going to be enough to contain these things.
