As for symptoms yes, a lot of attendance is going to be wasted for colds, flu and so on - but when there’s such an overlap of symptoms with COVID that’s always going to happen.

It basically boils down to would you rather find out it is COVID in the community early or late? That is the key thing here; with early detection we have a good chance of stopping it long before restrictions and lockdown; without it we don’t.

For me, I'd rather find out late and live in a liberal democratic society than find out early and live in China.

Of course you would - though of course comparing someone coming around to your house to test you in an attempt try and control a disease that’s cost a hundred thousand people their lives here (and caused hundreds of billions of pounds in economic damage) with a regime that sells the body parts of people it’s killed in the concentration camps it runs (and which might be responsible for this disease in the first place) is absolutely absurd.

No it isn't - every authoritarian regime tries to justify its actions. The only way the system you propose could exist is in a society prepared to accept it, and therefore any other such 'justified' measure.
