Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Unbelievable some of the posts on this thread: 120,000 people dead, the highest per capita fatality rate in the world, a government that's bungled every major decision of timing of closing and reopening the economy (not to mention their calamitous decisions on PPE, track and trace etc) and there's a defence of the crackpot obsession of single doses when the rest of the world are looking to inoculate their most vulnerable twice.

No doubt the butcher's 'roadmap' will be applauded by such people too.

I keep telling you, it’s 2.4Million dead.......

You`ll find no defence of the government, just a lot of people who are happy that 17 million people and counting, are more than likely not going to die now and we can slowly get back to living a normal life again.

Yeah, I think the people need hope.

So I'm all for a roadmap and a way out of this hell for us all.

No ones defending the government Dave, at the same time we aren’t all like certain people who don’t want folk to have social lives even when the vaccine rollout is proving a success

Would it tell me that the vaccine makers when they first announced their results before Christmas - and who uniformly told us that there needed to be a three week gap between each of their two jabs - were talking out of their hoops?

TO. GET. A. BIT. MORE. OF. A. BOOST.

Is zero immunisation better than 70%?

Is 70% to 90% that big a deal, against 70%?

It teaches the immune system, it doesnt protect anyone, fully.

No. I want everyone to be fully immunised before a lockdown is lifted.

Tell me that's wrong...and if you do you're basically saying that a few more thousand people's lives dont matter.

What about the thousands of people who are suffering already? Irrespective of how efficient any vaccine is in anything, right now people are 100% suffering from a whole manner of things and there's no vaccination for that and there never will be.

Businesses. Mental health. Education. Physical well being. Social skills. Life experiences.

They can't be put on hold for some pie in the sky idealistic view you have.

Show some respect man.

Whilst I kinda agree with the sentiment that I want the world to go back to normal...

Physical well being? Social skills? Life experience?

people are dying and without the restrictions a hell of a lot more people would have.

people have had to make enormous sacrifices and you are worried about social skills and ‘life experience’.

And physical well being? People are allowed outside. People are allowed to exercise.

I’m sick of entitled cowards making out that their world has been shattered because they can’t go on holiday or can’t go the pub or can’t go the gym.

the thing that does my head in most is that this pandemic hasn’t created problems. It’s exacerbated existing ones. No one cared about mental and physical health 12 months ago. No one cared about educational poverty. No one cared about the gig economy.

The only reason they care now is because they are inconvenienced. It’s cowardice and it does my head in

It’s a pandemic. It’s awful. But the least awful thing is lack of life experience. Or not being able to go to a gym. Or a pub.

Couldn't agree more, its not like the vocal anti-lockdown crowd are in favour of municipal funding going towards kids gaining life skills or being put towards mental health care, or having solutions to solve social problems that go beyond punative punishment.

Speak to someone working in the warzones in healthcare and the nightmares they will suffer for life after this, for me easing pressure in that area is the number one priority

I couldn't give a hoot about me, but the generations below me are missing out big time.
A gym or pub isn't a life experience.

Going on holiday with your family. University couped up in halls. Not having family to your military passing out parades. Youngsters not being able to do exams.

These things profoundly impact individuals and makes individuals into people.

Perpetual lockdown isn't just saving lives. It's ruining others at the same time.

Everyone fully immunised is actually impossible. None of the vaccines are 100% effective.
Exactly, this isn’t Iceland for example, we have 67 million to vaccinate, unlike their 341,000. It’s going to be impossible and we need to vaccinate all adults at the very least, which covers a good percentage of the population.

It’s been less than 12 months. The same people who are annoyed at lockdown still celebrate a war that lasted 7 years.

it’s awful and I want it to be over. But people are losing family and you are talking about people missing out on a certificate ffs.

it’s everything wrong with the world. The Instagram generation.

Its not just missing out on a certificate though is it. And you know that as well as I do.

What do you tell the business owner who has lost the thing he's built for 20 years go under? What about the wife of the man who commits suicide because he's mentally unwell?

What do you tell the teenager who has been so isolated for so long that he's a recluse and the social skills you build up through high school are not prevalent?

There's no easy answer but lockdown isn't the be all and end all in living with covid.
I speak as someone who has shielded since March 15th 2020. Prior to that I spent a month in hospital.

Continual lockdown won't solve covid.

A blow to Liverpool One if true.
