Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Seems like things are a bit crazy in our local trust. The number of patients in critical care is about 7x the capacity and it's doubled in the past 24 hours. I'm not sure how you even begin to cope with such a surge in demand in such a short space of time.
Countries across the world locked down and we allowed people to eat out and even let 2000 people into football stadiums.

Thing is mate, sometimes it's not people being selfish.

Like, I have to go into an office for 2 days a week because I don't have the software to work from home. It's a second job I've had to pick up because I lost a job last year. Yes the government have offered me no support and that's on them, but also I don't mind working. I go into an office and feel safe, as protocols are followed. It's also a 2-min drive from my house and, since this week, I'm the only person going in on the days I work.

I don't think I'm being selfish and I don't think my employers are either. Indeed they're doing me a massive help by letting me go in and not lose another job.

But I agree, if you can work from home - if there's no reason for you to go into an office - then you should be working from home.
Aye i didn’t mean it to sound like I was making out those going into the office are selfish. I have to go in every now then too. A lot of us don’t have a choice. It’s more the anti maskers and the like I was referring to

Does appear to be some baffling decisions made around the world. Had my weekly Czech lesson earlier and the teacher had been to see her parents over Christmas (which was allowed). Since then they've all been infected. There's only so often you can facepalm.

'Leading' and 'Trying his hand' ! If it wasn't so serious it would make you laugh. Just add it to the list of pigs in the trough and nepotism - remember Dido Harding (another failure who's disappeared from public view), just happened to have previously worked at Sainsbury's, and purely coincidentally appoints the former head of Sainsbury's, the well known money grubber.

A colleague's wife, a medical professional, went around to her sister's house to meet their newborn. All the family were there - all respectable professionals.

The current count is five of the nine who went, including the newborn and my mate's wife, have the virus and it's likely the other four will show get it.

Idiocy to the highest level. He's livid because he is now isolating even though he's already had the virus because she wouldn't just stay at home.

A bit of a breakthrough in getting the knob head ‘can’t be arsed wearing a mask and just saying I’m exempt’ people to wear a mask today at work.

Offer them a free one, followed by the usual ‘I’m exempt’.
Fine, can you wear one of our Lanyards then please whilst you are shopping.

Most decided to take one of the masks.

100% mate, and companies that are making staff go in for no reason.

Was just using myself as an example, hadn't taken anything personally!

Honestly, I don't know one anti-masker or anti-vaxer - I know they're out there, but everyone I know personally is following the guidance.

This thing is rife atm, it's a virus and it'll spread even with every single person following the guidance. Just have to get these vaccines rolled out.

I see plenty of nobs on public transport not bothering with masks, or not distancing properly in supermarkets. Things like that.

Yeah, fair enough. I don't have to use any public transport (as there's nowhere to go and as I said i drive a few mins to the office) and if I do have to go to the big supermarket near me, I go at quieter times - generally see less people and always wearing masks.

There will be cases where people generally forget. I do it all the time, tbf - leave the mask in my car - but i always wear a snood atm so I just pull that up.

Did the Lanyard have a card attached saying ‘I am a Knobhead’........

Ilm not even sure the UK vatiant was ever globally agreed as being as infectious as claimed.

This is a pandemic. The kind of troughs and peaks you see now in those graphs are typical of all pandemics - murderous first wave followed by an even more murderous autumn/winter (if behaviour isn't drastically changed...which it wasn't in the west).
Many viruses similar to covid become super transmissible in the northern hemisphere this time of year purely because we move on mass indoors due to it' being cold wet and miserable. To be fair I have found most rather sceptical of the claims.

Lots of maybe and could be here...

Is that fact though, I was in Hamburg June/July when we was doing the eat out to help out and the whole city was packed, bars open till 0400.

I was in Antibes, end of July, again absolutely packed.
I wasn’t there but I heard Scandinavian was the same, as was Barcelona/Spain.

Croatia etc barks hand any sort of lockdown all summer. Loads of people o know went to Tenerife/Dubai.

Im not saying what we have done is right but it’s no different than anyone else has done.
