Is it safe for me to go in on Tuesday and return home to share a house with a cancer patient? Is it safe for teaching assistants and dinner ladies who are 60+ in my school?

The virus is out of control, schools are playing a huge role in that. Anyone who says it's safe for them to be open is basically saying the kids will be sound, sod the rest of society.

My missus is a teacher and is adamant the risk is low. Teachers should be 2m away from students at a time

You mean you can't baby sit my kids while I work from home, how dare you think of your risk!

They’ve told the government that they believe schools should be closed to contain the virus. Schools clearly play a significant role in the transmission of the disease. This was also before the new strain was taken into account. That should be enough for the government to take action.

That is different to them being unsafe to teachers

Then why do we get stats like above?

If Johnson and his mess of a government genuinely cared about children's education they'd have brought in some real measures to help tackle the problem. In Spain, class sizes no bigger than 20 and every child over 6 years old must wear a mask.

Do you have the scientific evidence which clearly shows that teaching thirty odd kids in room for 6 hours with limited ventilation is safe? So much about this disease is still unknown, that’s what’s scary about it. Throw the new strain into the mix and it is clear that schools, in the state they are currently in, are not safe for the communities they serve.

This is before you consider some of the bone headed parents that drop off and pick up their kids from school. No masks, coughing and not giving a scooby about social distancing. The virus will run riot before the vaccine takes effect. We have gone back to trying out the heard immunity method.

arminisgod will supply you with those facts and figures shortly. He's very rigorous like that.

Reckon you've gone into work over that 10 year period and spread viruses about...
There will be no wholesale move working from home, the economy wont allow it. Hence the hundreds of millions spent on eat out to spread it about, various political right wingers and media screaming at people to get out and save Costa Pret A Manger and many others several months ago.

Course its not dear...

Well I just haven't been sick, mate.

One of those jobs was a weekend job at first that then went full time, but I worked in a restaraunt. Now, if you've ever worked somehwere like that, you'll know how frowned upon it is to call in sick or keep doing it -but, obviously if you are ill you should be nowhere near food. Thing is though, this is the real world. This is people's livelihoods and businesses and if you're unreliable, you get nowhere.

Luckily, I just wasn't ever ill during that. Don't think I took one sick day. I had a year of ft working and didn't really ever have anything. might feel run down, but it's the nature of the work.

I did get run down while juggling two jobs, but again, one I could and did work from home - and it was usually just general fatigue. If I was ever feeling properly crap, I'd phone in sick and not work the job I couldn't do from home, but it was like 3-4 days that I can recall. Having a cold isn't an excuse not to go to work.

Unfortunately though if you think we're ever gonna be in a world where small business owners can just allow their employees to be off sick for any reason then you need to get your head out of the clouds.

One thing working from home should, in theory, stop is people who are well enough to work but not well enough to go into work (or spreading it around) from having to take time off. Our immune systems are also built on being exposed to stuff, we can't just be locked away or we'd die the moment we left the house.

COVID is obviously very different, but just to be clear here I'm not talking about COVID.

I can picture the scene at school now.
All gathered round talking about their Christmas, and saying how great their New Years Eve was..

We know it needs to be a full lockdown again. Nowt open but genuine essentials, but we will end up with some half arsed Tier 5 or something.

Might as well just never do owt again mate :)

But yeah, I take the point on board. It's on the governments then, isn't it.
It's on us all,we had the warning with Avian Flu years ago and yet just ignored it. Was reading a Facebook page just before Xmas where loads of Brits were gloating about how they'd made it to Spain for a holiday without being stopped at any motorway checkpoints.
