Hospital figures - 418 deaths were announced today, down 12 on yesterday and down 1 on last Friday. 338 deaths were in English hospitals, down 13 on yesterday and up 12 on last week with 326 occurring in the past 10 days. The 7 day rolling average falls slightly to 363.29

All settings - for the 28 day cut off, 520 deaths were announced today, up 22 on yesterday and up 9 on last Friday. The 7 day rolling average rises slightly to 466.43

For the 60 day cut off, 568 deaths were announced today, up 30 on yesterday’s eventual announced total of 538 and up 24 on last Friday. The 7 day rolling average rises to 502.14
 
on the deaths numbers.. be careful, these numbers are "people who have died and been confirmed to have had Covid-19 within the last 30 days"

That is not exactly the same as people died from Covid-19, and will somewhat overstate the true number, and as we head into winter the discrepancy will grow as people unfortunately succumb to all manner of other causes.

i find it really odd why they count it like that. Surely the govb want people to think deaths are lower.

That's why expected deaths is all people should really look at.

It's so that there is less risk of us understating the numbers, as inevitably not all covid deaths will be officially registered and confirmed. It's terrible to reduce this down to just raw numbers, but the same concept of conservatism is a generally accepted method in general accounting principles.
